Rally Starters in Calvary at Campbell County Thriller

However, each team has weaknesses. Barring upsets, the team that advanced to the region tournament out of the three after favored Bishop Brossart from the 37th District will be the one that does the better job overcoming them.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Calvary Christian (18-4 overall) overcame net play struggles to beat Campbell County (7-15), 3-2 (26-24, 17-25, 23-25, 25-21, 15-11) in the crucial district seed game Monday. Calvary Christian won its first district seed game and the Camels dropped to 0-2 in district play as a result. Bishop Brossart is 2-0 in district play and Scott is 0-1. Calvary Christian also had to overcome the loss of Ava Dahler to an injury. However, libero [player_tooltip player_id='896714' first='Madison' last='Stelzer'] helped start rallies with setters [player_tooltip player_id='918951' first='Natalia' last='McGlynn'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1046738' first='Annabel' last='Leach'] putting balls on target to [player_tooltip player_id='779514' first='Megan' last='Arthur'] and Nora Baker had some key blocks. Head coach Becky Stelzer also credited eighth graders Ella Tipple and Landry Eimer for coming in to make up for the loss of Dahler.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>"We had to make changes. (Dahler) plays all around for us," Coach Stelzer said. "We had to fill in. (Tipple and Eimer) played the positions we needed them to. We rallied around (Dahler) and continued to fight, and that's what they need to do. I knew at the beginning of the year we had to fight for every point because we'll be underestimated a bit because we're young. We have eighth graders on the floor a lot. They came out and super impressed me and their hard work. They fought for it, so I'm proud of them for sure."</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Campbell County tried like crazy to make sure senior power hitters [player_tooltip player_id='603546' first='Chloe' last='Hershey'] and [player_tooltip player_id='882255' first='Amerie' last='Mullins'] got their swings and senior middle Lydia Fry had some key blocks. Senior liberos [player_tooltip player_id='793055' first='Chloe' last='Hardcorn'] and Kendyl Hartman dug up what they could with Ariana Rice also taking some nice swings. Campbell County setters Kayden Kramer and Adalyn Bertsch try to put balls in the hitters' power zones. However, first and second touches have not always come easy for the Camels this year. That's where underclassmen such as eighth graders [player_tooltip player_id='1046751' first='Addison' last='Rice'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1046730' first='Marissa' last='Roellig'] have come in along with the likes of freshmen Brynn Sansom and Lexis Trauth have come up from the junior varsity to help. Arthur takes hard swings to the back row and tools blocks. Arthur sends over nice crosses and attacks seams with precision. Arthur's float serve gave Campbell County some problems. Her first touches and leadership on the court also proved to be valuable for the Cougars in the win. Arthur said the players have to put the team first instead of trying to smack balls every time against a big block as a smaller team. She may make mistakes, but does so going 100 miles per hour. Stelzer does a great job closing gaps quickly and sends free balls over with a purpose. Leach makes good decisions on where to set balls and reacts quickly on defense. A lot of the small things Leach does add up for the Cougars. Leach can take quality swings when needed. McGlynn tools blocks and sends soft touches to the shallow six zone to give the Cougars big points. McGlynn also makes a lot happen with her serves. She has an impressive arm swing and has developed nice shoves to the side lines. Hershey pounds balls down lines when the openings present themselves. Hershey's court awareness has also improved. Hershey takes nice swings from the back row and uses her off (left) hand to surprise opponents. Mullins puts across quality crosses and mixes in soft shots. Mullins can put over nice roll shots if Campbell County is out of system pound out solid line swings. Mullins is especially tough on twos and gap shots. Mullins shoves hard balls to lines and takes nice swings from the back row. Rice does a great job backing up on balls and is a hustler on defense. Rice is also coachable. Rice brings in an aggressive serve for the Camels and makes some nice first contacts in the back row.
