5A MATCHUPS

Horizon vs Notre Dame

Last Meeting: Just earlier this month, Horizon had a notable victory over Notre Dame at home. Next week they take them on again away, and we know Notre Dame isn't going down with out a fight.

Horizon has been led offensively by junior outside [player_tooltip player_id='768939' first='Nia' last='Tinsley'], who continues to establish herself as a major threat at the net. In their first meeting, Tinsley recorded 21 kills, while setter [player_tooltip player_id='945775' first='Gabi' last='Gilbert'] distributed 46 assists and [player_tooltip player_id='827567' first='Olivia' last='Kauffman'] contributed three aces. Notre Dame Prep counters with the versatile [player_tooltip player_id='885092' first='Elizabeth' last='Hackleman'], who delivered an impressive all-around performance in their previous matchup with 18 kills, 22 assists, 16 digs, and three aces. [player_tooltip player_id='935405' first='Sylvie' last='Solorzano'] also played a significant role for the Saints, finishing with 23 assists, 12 digs, and seven kills. The biggest question heading into this rematch will be whether Notre Dame Prep can find an answer for Tinsley's offensive production while maintaining its own offensive balance. With both programs looking to carry momentum into the state tournament, expect another competitive battle between these 5A contenders.

Ironwood vs Sunrise Mountain

Last Meeting: Sunrise Mountain edged Ironwood 2-1 in tournament play on October 10, avenging a 3-0 loss to the Eagles on September 16. With the teams splitting their first two meetings, their October 28 rematch will serve as a rubber match between these Northwest Valley rivals.

Another exciting 5A Northwest Valley rematch is on the horizon as Ironwood and Sunrise Mountain prepare to battle with postseason positioning on the line. Ironwood has been led offensively by junior outside [player_tooltip player_id='835620' first='Malaya' last='Gibbs'], who has recorded 170 kills, while junior middle [player_tooltip player_id='765631' first='Isabella' last='White'] has been one of the Eagles' most efficient attackers, hitting .303. Sophomore setter Madalyn Hutchison has distributed 392 assists, while senior libero Malie Soza anchors the defense with 219 digs. Sunrise Mountain counters with [player_tooltip player_id='889801' first='Alexandria' last='Muller'], who leads the Mustangs with 163 kills and has contributed 220 digs. Lucy Proudfit adds another offensive threat with 132 kills, while [player_tooltip player_id='962552' first='Tessa' last='Brueggeman'] has recorded 341 assists and 38 aces. Defensively, [player_tooltip player_id='794268' first='Hailey' last='Brueggeman'] has been outstanding with 295 digs, and [player_tooltip player_id='804899' first='Brielle' last='Barrois'] has contributed 32 blocks. The matchup between Gibbs and Sunrise Mountain's backcourt will be one to watch, while the Mustangs will need to find ways to challenge Ironwood's efficient offense. With both programs capable of putting together strong performances, this should be another competitive 5A showdown.

4A MATCHUPS

Ironwood Ridge vs Mica Mountain

Last Meeting: Ironwood Ridge defeated Mica Mountain 3-0 on October 6, but the final score hardly tells the whole story. Every set was decided by three points or fewer (25-23, 28-26, 25-22). The Thunderbolts will look to even the score when they host the Nighthawks on October 29.

One of the biggest matchups remaining in 4A features two Southern Arizona powerhouses as Ironwood Ridge and Mica Mountain prepare for another highly anticipated showdown. The Nighthawks have established themselves as legitimate state title contenders, led by Florida State commit [player_tooltip player_id='749268' first='Ashlyn' last='Quiri'], who continues to be one of the most dominant offensive weapons in Arizona. Quiri delivered 22 kills in their previous meeting, while sophomore setter [player_tooltip player_id='888731' first='Marcella' last='Landers'] distributed 29 assists. Junior [player_tooltip player_id='833602' first='Kallie' last='George'], who recently surpassed 1,000 career kills, gives Ironwood Ridge another dangerous attacking option. Mica Mountain counters with Idaho State commit [player_tooltip player_id='877240' first='Aubrey' last='Necas'], who has been a force on both sides of the ball. Necas recorded 20 kills, 10 digs, and two solo blocks in their last meeting, showcasing her ability to take over a match. The battle between Quiri and Necas will be one to watch, but the biggest difference could come down to which team executes in the closing points of each set. With two talented rosters and postseason implications on the line, this matchup has all the makings of a potential state tournament preview.

Saguaro vs Cactus

Last Meeting: Saguaro swept Cactus 3-0 on October 20. The Cobras will have an opportunity to even the score when they host the Sabercats on October 29

Another exciting 4A matchup to keep an eye on features Saguaro and Cactus, two programs with plenty of talent and postseason potential. Saguaro has been led offensively by [player_tooltip player_id='888723' first='Sloan' last='Kribel'], who has recorded 322 kills and 49 aces, making her a dangerous weapon both at the net and behind the service line. [player_tooltip player_id='1054817' first='Anissa' last='Quezada Hughes'] has been instrumental in running the Sabercats' offense with 367 assists, while [player_tooltip player_id='939865' first='Chloe' last='Russell'] has provided a strong presence at the net with 47 blocks. Cactus counters with [player_tooltip player_id='891304' first='Skye' last='Moore'], who leads the Cobras with 162 kills, while [player_tooltip player_id='947364' first='Ziara' last='Pauli'] has been an all-around difference-maker with 294 assists, 163 digs, and 26 aces. [player_tooltip player_id='891308' first='Kenli' last='Petty'] adds another defensive presence at the net with 18 blocks. The matchup between Kribel and the Cactus defense will be one to watch, while the Cobras will need to establish their offensive rhythm and limit Saguaro's opportunities to score in transition. With both teams looking to finish strong, this rematch should be an important test heading into the postseason.
