Regional Games 10 Stars Showing Out On The Court

Had a chance to check out some regional games and some players really stuck out to me on the court. Playoff volleyball is always fun to watch. The girls are out there giving it their all, and competing to the max. For some younger players on varsity it's their 1st games under the bright lights of playoffs for some of the upper class, they are looking to leave their mark and possibly go out with a bang!

Cartwright is long, athletic, with a great vertical. I saw her explode for a few kills on that RS for Joliet West. She gets a ton of touches at the nets while blocking with arms well over the net. She has long arms and is continuing to get better which is scary. When she times her hits they are kills and big kills. Serves a deep serve while serving making it tricky for back row players to receive.

Suggs had a great game while I was watching. She must have had 6 or 7 kills and explosive big kills! Give Suggs a good set and she will punish the ball. Strong player who blocks well at the net and can hurt you with hits as well. Moves well at the net, moves well laterally for blocks. Big game for Suggs.

Lily is a Libero for Joliet West and she keeps everything calm in that back row. Big explosive offense West has but can't run fluid without steady back row passing. Swan bring clam collected passing in the back row on serve receive. Also, seems to be in the right spot on defense and makes digs and plays back there as well. Swan holds it down in the back row.

Logo was battling out there for her school against a tough Joliet West team. Logo was a MH/MB for East Moline who got some good touches at the net, a block or two, and a few kills. Her kills came off of Over passes and a few set ups. She has good lift at her size, moved well along the net.

Knapp does a nice job turning over on the ball when hitting. If she gets a off set she can position her swings for good contact swings. Watched her get a couple kills from the OH and RS spots. Good solid contact when swings making it hard for the D to return. She played a good game for Yorkville.

Charlie did a great job running the offense for her squad. She made a lot of great sets setting her hitters up for kills. Also did a great job keeping plays alive with digs, deflections, and one handed sets. She showed a lot of hustle and grit keeping plays and points going. Charlie has a great serve as well, can hit you with power or a nice top spin serve that is tough to handle.

Autumn can do everything. She could be your Libero, your OH, RS, wherever you need her and she will produce. She did a great job in the OH role during her match. Great vertical, can hang in the air, and put kills down on you. I watched her hang on one kill and hit it still with power to the open spot. Good passer as well, and great on defense. Athletic moves very well.

Adams sets every ball right on the money. She makes it look easy. If the sets aren't there her hitters aren't hitting. Cool and calm and makes all the sets. Whether its a back set, quick, whatever ... it's on the money. Julia has soft hands, good mechanics and good feet. Always gets herself in position to make a great set.

Stanek was a lefty OH pin for her squad. You don't see a ton of left Outside hitting pins. She did a nice job for her team. She is a sophomore playing varsity for her team and I believe the best is still to come for this baller. She was a competitor, had some nice swings, tooled the block a few times. More to come from Stanek.

Morgan had a great game while watching her. She had at least 6 kills with some being big time kills. Does a great job for her team putting pressure on defenses with her big swings. Snaps her wrist well and get on top of hits. She got some nice kills with velocity behind them, nothing the back row could do. Her approach is quick and gets up quick for her hits, catching front rows off guard. Great game for Morgan.

Looking forward to catching some more playoff volleyball this week into next. So many good players and teams, good luck to all those still in the hunt in the playoffs.
