2A Weekly Updates: Whom To Watch In Indiana

Moving through our weekly updates on team’s successes in the Hoosier State brought some surprises in 1A, yet kept the majority of the chalk in 2A. Four teams stayed, with one newcomer. With that being said, none of this would be possible without the unending work of Zach McCrite, main administrator for the website IndianaPrepVolleyball.com. If you’re at all interested in high school volleyball in Indiana, go check his site out. #5: Barr-Reeve, 12-2 Previous ranking: #3 I wouldn’t be concerned with BR slipping two spots, as their ranking only takes into account matches through Saturday. It does NOT include the easy, straight-sets win over previously undefeated and 1A #2 Springs Valley last night. With that win, coupled with the strength of schedule boosts for tonight’s match against 4A Floyd Central, those should keep the Vikings in the top five for next week. We’re really impressed with first team all-state [player_tooltip player_id="101372" first="Addison" last="Ainscough"] (’21, 5-11, OH), and her ability to continue the one-two punch that is she and Southern Indiana commit [player_tooltip player_id="85713" first="Anna" last="Ballengee"]. #4: Carroll, 9-4 Previous ranking: NR One might look at Carroll’s record and wonder why a four-loss team makes it into our top five. Strength of schedule means something to us here at Prep Dig, and three of the Chargers’ four losses are to Munster and Penn, perennial studs in the 4A volleyball world. Taking a set off of Munster the second time around also helped their cause---it’s a sign of improvement for this squad. Their freshman libero, Brenna Ginder (’24, 5-3, DS) has caught our eye, and her over four digs per set are leading the Chargers. #3: Andrean, 7-2 Previous ranking: #4 The Fighting 59ers have two losses---one to Munster last night and Lake Central, another big school. This is a team that will have plenty of opportunity to prove themselves against bigger competition, and, so far, have proven their worth. We’re especially fond of [player_tooltip player_id="108093" first="Angelina" last="Majchrowicz"] (’22, 6-0, OH), whose team lead in kills and aces pace Andrean. #2: Heritage Christian, 10-0 Previous ranking: #2 Holding fast at #2 in the state is defending champ Heritage Christian. The Eagles, led offensively by Purdue commit [player_tooltip player_id="85670" first="Raven" last="Colvin"], haven’t slowed in the least, as they’ve dropped three sets in ten matches thus far( For the record, all three of those sets were dropped to 4A schools.). Aside from a September 28 showdown with 4A Roncalli for what could be the conference championship, I don’t see any losses on the schedule until then. One unsung hero on this squad is [player_tooltip player_id="108100" first="Kendall" last="Hickey"] (’23, 5-1, DS), whose four digs per set lead every first contact to termination for HC. #1: Wapahani, 6-1 Previous ranking: #1 No change here, as Wapahani’s loss to 4A #4 Yorktown doesn’t hurt them in the least. No one on Heritage Christian’s schedule reflects the toughness of the Raiders’ schedule, but I REALLY want to see these two go head-to-head. Wapahani’s ball control and volleyball IQ versus Heritage Christian’s brute force and experience. We mentioned outside hitting stud [player_tooltip player_id="85905" first="Chloe" last="Cook"] last week, so let’s hit the other pin and take a peek at [player_tooltip player_id="95742" first="Mallory" last="Summers"] (’21, 5-9, OH). A primary passer through and through, she’s #2 in kills for the Raiders and always seems to be the main receiver in serve receive, with very few flaws in her game.
