While we did share an article that focused on the top setters in this class from a statistical point of view, this article focuses on the setters from a recruitment/ranking perspective. Some of the top setters in the state will transition to defense due to factors such as roster availability and size, to name a couple. We have 9 setters in the top 80 and will highlight each of them below.
Ranked #8 Sydney Golden Sydney Golden 5'9" | S Nixa | 2022 State MO – Nixa/417 – University of Northern Iowa
The top-ranked setter in the class, Golden is an absolute winner as evidenced by the success her teams have enjoyed at Nixa. She sets up an age division for her club team (417 18-1) and is an efficient passer with tremendous footwork. She displays a level of calm and works hard to put her hitters in a position to find success. She recently committed to the Univesity of Northern Iowa and Bobbi Peterson.
Ranked #12 Addison Beagle Addison Beagle 5'9" | S Liberty North | 2022 State MO – Liberty North/Dynasty
Conference title. Check. District and Sectional title. Check. Undefeated State Champion. Check. Beagle has been turning heads on the club scene for years and has established herself as one of the top setters in the region. Like Golden, she has great hands and high volleyball intelligence on the court. She uses her quickness to get under the ball to give herself more options out of system. 912 assists were the result of her aggressiveness and hard work for Beagle.
Ranked #18 Lacey Higgins Lacey Higgins 5'9" | S Lee's Summit West | 2022 State MO – Lee’s Summit West/Mavs 816
It’s no surprise Lee’s Summit West pins have had strong numbers in the last couple of years. Higgins has close to 1700 assists in that span. She has decent size at 5’9″ and should have many suitors for her services. She has made the move over to Mavs 816 this club season. A strong winter/spring will continue to increase her stock in the eyes of coaches.
Ranked #27 Rachel Schipper Rachel Schipper 5'8" | S St. Dominic | 2022 State MO – St. Dominic/Rockwood Thunder
A pure leader is what comes to mind when others describe the 5’8″ setter. The all-state performer led her team to a final four season. She does a great job of reading the defense to give her hitters 1 on 1 opportunities. She is also offensive-minded and uses the dump with high efficiency. She will benefit from a recruitment perspective with a full club season, as many coaches look forward to seeing her on the court. She had 810 assists this fall for St. Dominic.
Ranked #47 Emerson Walter Emerson Walter 5'5" | S Platte County | 2022 State MO – Platte County/Dynasty
Walter had a breakthrough season in her first on varsity for Platte County. The Pirates are known for their 6-2 system the last few years and Walter stepped in to do her part successfully, with 631 assists. A final four run was the result of Walter helping run the offense. At 5’5″, she can play at the DII, DIII, and NAIA level, but she has also shown to be a really good defender, which may catch the eyes of some Division I schools. She is an aggressive server and led the entire state in serving aces with 121.
Ranked #48 Paige Gayer Paige Gayer 5'6" | S Willard | 2022 State MO – Willard
The common theme with many of the setters thus far is final four runs. Gayer is another addition to this setter sorority after getting there this past fall. Like Beagle, Gayer walked away with the top trophy after winning the Class 4 title. Willard had two of the top scorers in the state and the 5’6″ junior took advantage dishing out over 1000 assists this fall. She is another setter who has the ability to set in the right program but also has exhibited the defensive skills to convert to a full-time defender as shared by some coaches.
Ranked #53 Autumn Kaderly Autumn Kaderly 5'6" | S Smithville | 2022 State MO – Smithville/Club North
The 5’7″ setter has slowly emerged on the scene as a prospect in the Class of 2022. She is another setter who has shown she can also convert to a defender, as evidenced by her play from right-back during the club season. She does have length, which has allowed her to have a blocking presence at the net when in the front row. She has great hands and found her hitters for 648 assists this fall, along with 172 digs.
Ranked #63 Sam Loida Sam Loida 5'5" | S Valle Catholic | 2022 State MO – Valle Catholic
As shared by Prep Dig Scout Nathan Davis, Loida was among the stat leaders for setters in this class in 2020 with 981 assists. She also provided 266 digs in a final four season for Valle Catholic, which saw her battle the top setter in the class of 2021 in the championship match. This year, Loida ran the 5-1 like a well-oiled machine. She displayed the ability to not be a liability in the block, which was appealing for some DII coaches on our panel. She could also play back row and find success in college and will be a good pickup for a program.
Ranked #76 McKenzie Seagraves McKenzie Seagraves 5'8" | S Pattonville | 2022 State MO – Pattonville/Attack
After a successful sophomore season that saw her break records, Seagraves and her teammates had a 10 games season due to the national pandemic. Pattonville limped to a 2-8 record in this shortened season and stats weren’t provided this fall. After a 700 plus assists year in 2019, Seagraves will look to showcase her talent on the club scene in 2021. At 5’8″, she runs the 5-1 and does it with great success.
