The best from each class – District 3A South Sound

The start of the high school volleyball season in Washington is closer than ever and at this point, you should already be very familiar with the best teams and the most impressive players from each district as we analyzed them in detail for the last few months in our several different series.

However, we know one of the reasons why many of you follow high school volleyball is to try and anticipate which prospects have what it takes to succeed at the collegiate level and beyond. So, in this series, we’ll share our best guesses and list the top student-athletes from each of the next three graduating classes in each State district.

This is the 3A South Sound District, where our selections are:

Class of 2021

Devyn Oestreich – Outside Hitter - Capital

Devyn Oestreich has all the tools an elite outside hitter needs but what makes her fit into that category is the fact that she knows when to use each one of them. That has been the story of her career with Capital as the 5’11” Oestreich has been instrumental in the team’s success over the last three years. In 2019, when the Cougars finished second at the State Championship, she had an outstanding season with 270 kills, 55 aces, 220 digs and 404 passes. Such strong numbers have earned her a spot in the All-League first team (moving up from a second-team selection in 2018) and the District’s MVP award. The next step of her career is already set as Oestreich has committed to play college volleyball with the Western Washington University.

Class of 2022

Tommi Galluci – Outside Hitter - Peninsula

Improving her overall production is the next step for Tommi Galluci but her impressive all-around already looks like the one of a top outside hitter. The 5’8” Peninsula prospect showed last year she has found the right balance between offense and defense on her game, ending the season with 60 kills, 17 aces, a team-high 157 digs and 204 passes. She also plays beach volleyball, which gives her the interesting ability of scoring points from less-than-ideal sets. With a couple of key seniors graduating after the Seahawks’ last campaign, it’s likely Galluci will get to play more minutes and boost these numbers even further over the next pair of years.

Class of 2023

Langley Griffin – Opposite – Peninsula

Langley Griffin had the privilege of playing with her older sister Maeve Griffin in her first year of high school volleyball and the two had great production for Peninsula. With her big sis gone, Langley is expected to have an even more central role in the team’s offensive system after the 5’11” opposite thrived in her freshman year with 65 kills, a team-high 33 aces, 20 blocks, 79 digs and 86 passes. Griffin, who earned an All-League second-team selection for her performance, is very fast on the court and is able to hit a variety of different shots at the net. Her serving and blocking games are also very well-developed at such an early stage of her career.
