High School Top Performers: 2A/2B Divisions

The high school volleyball season continues at full pace in the state of Washington. After several months of wait and uncertainty, it has been great to see these student-athletes being able to get on the court again and doing what they love. It is, however, a shortened season and in a little over three weeks it will have come to an end already. Knowing that, we certainly don’t want to waste any time and will continue with our weekly articles highlights the players who have been doing a great job in each of the state’s six divisions. Let’s give a good look at the 2A and 2B divisions now. 2A Lucy George – Outside Hitter – Woodland – 2021 Lucy George has been of great help to Woodland this season especially because of her efficient game at the net. The 5’10” outside hitter was one of the team’s most important players on offense and shared the scoring load with middle-blocker [player_tooltip player_id="96982" first="Emma" last="Swett"], ranking second in kills with 108. More impressive was her kill percentage at 42.4%. George also did well when blocking, ranking fourth among the Beavers in that area with 14 stuffs.   Danielle Faamausili – Setter – Steilacoom – 2022 It was another solid season for Danielle Faamausili at Steilacoom as the third-year setter managed to keep an interesting level of consistency since the start of her high school career. The 5’9” Faamausili produced 319 assists, 91 aces, 33 aces and 33 kills for the Sentinels and once again helped in a lot of different aspects of the game. The best news of the season for her was arguably the growth of her aces per set average from 0.6 to 0.9.   Maddi Boyd – Libero – Orting – 2021 Maddi Boyd was a defensive stud for Orting all season as she did a great job in coordinating the team’s backcourt efforts. The 5’5” libero stepped up to her duties and led the Cardinals in digs with 158 (averaging an impressive 6.6 per set) and passes with 119 (five per set). She also helped with 14 aces and had four matches during the season with 22 digs or more.   2B Jessica Mitchell – Middle-blocker – Walla Walla Valley Academy – 2021 Jessica Mitchell ended her journey as Walla Walla Valley Academy’s Swiss Army knife with another season in which she was instrumental for the Knights in quite a few different areas of the game. The 5’9” middle-blocker ranked in the top-three of the squad in every skill she possibly could, appearing as second in kills (70), digs (101) and passes (82) and third in blocks (six) and aces (46).   Lauren Moody – Outside Hitter- Upper Columbia Academy – 2023 One of the captains of Upper Columbia Academy, Lauren Moody proved to be a very important part of the team’s playing system this season too. The outside hitter did it all for her team and finished in the top-three in each of the five main skills. Moody led Upper Columbia Academy in kills (85), ranked second in digs (53) and passes (88) and third in aces (15) and blocks (11).   Gretchen Stottlemyre – Middle-Blocker – Northwest Christian – 2021 Gretchen Stottlemyre is another middle-blocker who contributed with much more than her game at the net. The 5’8” Northwest Christian prospect produced at the net too with 36 kills in five matches (the second-best mark in the team), but her contribution to the Wolverines’ backcourt game was far greater. Stottlemyre was the team’s top defender with 60 digs, nearly twice as many as the second-best ranked player, and ranked third in passes with 52.
