5A All-Star Teams

Typically, with the State tournament, will come All-State awards. However, due to COVID-19, the season was shortened and there was no OSAA State tournament meaning no all-state awards were given. Because of this PrepDig has decided to create their selections for All-Star teams, as well as the 5A Co-Player of the Year. CO-PLAYER OF THE YEAR [player_tooltip player_id="91111" first="Clarissa" last="Klein"], 6’1", OH/RS, Wilsonville High School, North Pacific Juniors, St. Mary’s College [caption id="attachment_143606" align="alignleft" width="150"]<a href="https://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/clarissa-klein/-f54S8tTEeiAxKkkK9HIDg/volleyball/stats.htm"><img class="wp-image-143606 size-thumbnail" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/pd/uploads/2021/05/Klein-Poster-9652-e1622051943889-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" /></a> Photo: Greg Altman[/caption] Securing the #6 spot on the class of 2021 rankings list for PrepDig, it is no surprise she was a dominant force for her high school team this past season. A three-year varsity starter, she is an offensive weapon for the Wilsonville High School Wildcats. Her high school coach Nathan Blankenship calls her "an unstoppable juggernaut" and her numbers prove this true (see below statistics). She is an explosive attacker, never afraid to take an absolute rip at the ball. Her arm swing is incredibly quick...like <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KC2gO1xfikk">really fast</a>. This arm swing coupled with her stature, athleticism, and explosiveness, makes her fairly unstoppable for her opponents. She also puts up quite the block, creating a wall for her opponents. Her serving game is next level, and she brings a serve that is rarely seen at the high school level: a deadly top spin jump serve. This garnered her loads of aces. When in the back row she has a keen eye for defense and brings an impressive back row attack that the Wildcats often used. All of this makes her an all-around force. She will be heading to play Division 1 volleyball down in California in the fall for St. Mary’s College. She totaled 520 kills (out of 1114 attempts) garnering her an impressive .311 hitting percentage over her three seasons with the Wildcats. She also racked up 49 total blocks, 134 aces, and 252 digs total. In this shortened season, she was still able to walk away with 167 kills. In a single match this past season versus St. Helens, she had 29 kills. Awards: During the Wildcats State run in 2019, where they placed 2nd, Klein was named to the 5A Second Team All-State, as well as being awarded the Player of the Game for their match in the finals. She also received Northwest Oregon Conference First Team All-League in 2019. Trained as an outside hitter most of her career, she transitioned to the libero position for the Bulldogs this past season and really excelled. The Bulldogs had a big gap in their lineup with the loss of their senior libero and looked to Dowell to lead the back row. Her competitive nature and leadership made her the perfect candidate for this role. She already had the technical training to succeed as their primary passer, give that she had played all six rotations previously. She has a great ability to read the ball and react quickly to the ball on defense, so well that she surpassed 1,000 career digs. She is a serving and serve receive machine. And watch out for her powerful backrow attack. Her coach Megan Wallace commended her, "She stepped into that position no questions asked and gave us her very best as she always does." Dowell will be staying in Oregon to play for Lane Community College in the fall, where she will be joined by teammates [player_tooltip player_id="91122" first="Elijah" last="Sanders"] and [player_tooltip player_id="143675" first="Isabella" last="Marsh"]. Most notable, she surpassed 1,000 total career digs, 1,064 digs to be exact, a major milestone. In total, she also had 114 aces with over 1,000 service attempts. In her junior season, when she was attacking on the outside, she racked up 212 kills, hitting a .206. In the shortened season, she was able to rack up 153 digs, have a 2.17 average pass rating, and 93% serving percentage. Awards: As a junior, she was awarded 5A Second Team All-State, as well as Mid-Willamette First Team All-League, as an outside hitter. Her sophomore season, she was awarded 5A Mid-Willamette Second Team All-League, as a defensive specialist.
