Updated ’22 Rankings: Best Available Setters

<p>Wrapping up the position-by-position rankings are the kids responsible for each squad’s success, the setters. These floor generals still need a home for the fall of ’22, and have a trait individual to each that would make any college team better upon arrival. Here’s the top five setters still available to be signed for arrival in the fall of 2022.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="115070" first="Marina" last="Gronkiewicz"], 5-10, Munster</strong></p> <p>Going across the border to Illinois for club training at 1st Alliance, Marina already runs a fast offense at both the high school and club levels. Her hands are quick and accurate, she knows offenses and how to take advantage of weaknesses, and plays above-average defense for a Munster team that has recently seen volleyball success. Her size is also above average for setters in this class in Indiana, and has played a great number of high-leverage, high-stress matches at the open level to prove her mettle for college coaches. </p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="101318" first="Kylie" last="VanHoy"], 5-10, Loogootee</strong></p> <p>From one extreme portion of the Hoosier State to another, Kylie trains at Evansville United and has a bit more speed to chase down out-of-system balls. Although more slight than Marina listed above, Kylie is just as strong and can set any spot in any tempo at any time. I’m sure Loogootee will make another strong run to the 1A state championship match. Can Kylie lead the way?</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="85829" first="Kelsey" last="Smith"], 6-0, Hamilton Heights</strong></p> <p>Located in north central Indiana, Kelsey has been one of my favorite setters in any class in Indiana. Even though she’s been training at regional club Grand Park, Kelsey plays at a high level and can do things that others on this list can’t simply because of her size. She can get tight passes with her length, and takes long strides to get out-of-system passes with ease. Plus, her near-ten-foot attack touch can have her play a little right side in a pinch. Kelsey will be an absolute steal for someone at the next level.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="118189" first="Payton" last="Rolfsen"], 5-11, Leo</strong></p> <p>From the Fort Wayne area, this Empowered-trained setter jump sets every ball and has a creativity in running an offense that is unrivaled in this class. She can do all things volleyball, from setting to defending to blocking and attacking. I love her fire, I love her relentlessness, and her athleticism is just the cherry on top of a solid volleyball background. This is a gym rat, through and through, and it’s only a matter of time before someone else notices. </p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="85832" first="Reagan" last="Kane"], 5-9, Columbus North</strong></p> <p>Hidden on the 17 Black team at Circle City, Reagan has exceptional deception in her setting and can run a fast offense to both pins at any time. She’s quiet and unassuming, but that’s mostly because she leads by example. I am a huge fan of her positivism, despite her high school team’s lack of volleyball talent. She’s athletic enough to get to bad passes, plays defense at a high level, and has a high-level volleyball IQ. Miss Kane is yet another unsung kid on this list that will be a steal for someone at the next level.</p>
