Revisiting the Top Stat Producers in the Class of 2023

<p>I brought a similar series to our Iowa coverage a couple of weeks ago. Now, with a fresh set of 2023 rankings just released, it’s time to talk about the Nebraska athletes who know how to drop some numbers on the stat sheet.</p> <p>These rankings have plenty of stat stuffers from around the Cornhusker State. Aside from the raw talent that these athletes bring to the floor, they are also well-rounded enough to lead their teams in a variety of statistical categories. That’s the spirit of this feature.</p> <p>Now, here are some players that should continue to dominate in yet another high school season this fall.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="59202" first="Karli" last="Heidemann"] - 6’1 OH - Diller-Odell</strong></p> <p>This list is simply not complete without Heidemann. Last season, she led all Nebraska players in kills regardless of class. Her incredible 5.6 kills per set campaign only further cemented her place near the top of our 2023 rankings. Better yet, she also chipped in over three kills per set as a do-it-all six-rotation pin hitter.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="109069" first="Jocelyn" last="Healy"] - 5’8 DS/L - Omaha Westside</strong></p> <p>Now it’s time to give a shoutout to last year’s "digs champion" among Nebraska 2023s. That title goes to Healy, who helped hold down the Omaha Westside backcourt throughout the season. Her 511 total digs in 2020 marked an impressive feat for the rising junior, and she also continued her upward trajectory during this year’s club season. Healy seems poised for even more statistical output.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="83539" first="Channatee" last="Robles"] - 5’8 OH - Norfolk Catholic</strong></p> <p>Robles earns a spot on this feature based on her willingness to rack up stats in any way possible. Last fall, she tallied more digs than almost any other outside hitter in her class. Robles did this while also recording four kills per set over the entire season. It’s no wonder why her Norfolk Catholic team is a championship threat, and I expect to see this versatile hitter back in Lincoln soon.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> [caption id="attachment_142692" align="alignright" width="300"]<img class="wp-image-142692 size-medium" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/pd/uploads/2021/05/DSC07805.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="200" /> TeKrony[/caption] <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="109071" first="Kensington" last="Tekrony"] - 6’0 MB - Omaha Westside</strong></p> <p>Omaha Westside has no shortage of big-time producers, and TeKrony’s specialty is blocking. Her work at the net was good enough to notch over 100 blocks over the 2020 campaign, and the Warriors can likely rely on this middle to replicate that performance yet again. With Westside building a formidable roster over the offseason, TeKrony should have a chance to showcase her skills on the big stage.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="123535" first="Lauryn" last="England"] - 5’7 S - Malcolm</strong></p> <p>England brings the kind of leadership you want from your setter. That leadership is reflected on the stat sheet, too, with England recording more assists than almost every other 2023 across the state. She’s a fearless floor defender, too, as she makes a habit of keeping the ball up in the right-back position.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="59193" first="Grace" last="Baumert"] - 6’1 OH - Howells-Dodge</strong></p> <p>Like Heidemann, Baumert is another small-town talent who brings a heavy arm to the left pin in high school competition. This Howells-Dodge product terminated over 400 times last season and was always a blocking threat along the net.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="83537" first="Georgi" last="Tenbensel"] - 5’6 OH - Silver Lake</strong></p> <p>TenBensel is undeniably the heart of her Silver Lake team. In addition to accumulating over four kills per set in 2020, she also made invaluable contributions on defense and in serve receive. All-around outside hitters like TenBensel are exciting to follow, and she still has a couple more opportunities to make an even bigger impact.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="103094" first="Ali" last="Butler"] - 5’8 OH - Millard South</strong></p> <p>Speaking of all-around outside hitters, Butler is another player that takes pride in her six-rotation abilities. She was one of Nebraska’s digs leaders among 2023s despite also spending much of her time getting kills in the front row. Butler has a great chance to expand her role even further and become an indispensable part of this Patriots team.</p>
