High School Spotlight: Morton Ranch Mavericks

<p>The high school volleyball season is underway in Texas and talented young players have been showcasing their skills in every corner of the Lone Star state.</p> <p>One of our missions at Prep Dig is to highlight as many teams and prospects as possible around the state, from State Championship contenders and household names to underdogs and special talents who might be flying under-the-radar.</p> <p>We spend a lot of time at the gyms gathering information and watching matches and will use this space to highlight some of the teams and players we got to watch in person. Today we’ll take a look at the Morton Ranch Mavericks.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Morton Ranch Mavericks</strong></p> <p>The Lady Mavericks play for the Morton Ranch High School out of the Katy area. The team coached by Gabriela Toussant was in great form in preseason but dropped a little bit since district play started and currently holds a 0-8 win record in the competitive Class 6A, Region III – District 19. Overall, Morton Ranch has won 18 and lost 17 matches this season.</p> <p>https://x.com/MortonRanch_VB/status/1428448779628335111?s=20</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Players to Watch:</strong></p> <p><strong>Mallory Lamport – Outside Hitter/Right Sider – 2022</strong></p> <p>Mallory Lamport is Morton Ranch’s utility player, but also one of the most important pieces in the team. The 5’7” prospect spends time on both the right and left sides of the net and can also fill in at the middle if needed. A hard worked, Lamport has an efficient offensive game, making very few mistakes and often making the right call on her shot selection, especially when facing big blocks. She also brings good energy to her teammates and does a great job in communicating with them the entire time. This season, Lamport has already produced 242 kills, 182 digs, 136 passes, 48 aces and 40 blocks for the Lady Mavericks.</p> <p><iframe src="//www.hudl.com/embed/video/3/13015177/6134a069a681770624a2f9ed" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen"></iframe></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Neveah Donahoe – Outside Hitter – 2023</strong></p> <p>Neveah Donahoe is easily the Lady Maverick with the highest ceiling on offense. Very long and athletic, she uses her 5’10” frame to score points at the net and often leads the team’s offensive system. Donahoe’s high contact point substantially increases her efficiency when hitting out-of-system sets off the net. She’s also an efficient blocker. Her production for Morton Ranch this season is at 252 kills, 189 digs, 59 aces and 49 blocks as of now.</p> <p><iframe src="//www.hudl.com/embed/video/3/13128594/6134623b0c5de30d242b1672" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen"></iframe></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Kyler Maple – Libero – Club: Houston Juniors – 2023</strong></p> <p>Despite not scoring points, Kyler Maple is an absolutely key piece in Morton Ranch’s playing system. An excellent passer and defender, the 5’4” libero gives the Lady Mavericks the backcourt stability every team needs. She can cover half of the court in serve-receiving, freeing the outside hitters to focus on offense, and does a great job in keeping the ball in play, something that comes as an advantage to a shorter team as Morton Ranch.
