2023 Rankings Update: Stock Risers (pt 2)

The EIGHT athletes mentioned below all showed lots of improvement since the last rankings update. All of these athletes made BIG jumps in the 2023 rankings. Taylor transferred from Central Catholic High School to LaSalle this past season. After playing on JV2 and JV for the Rams, she made it on the Varsity squad for the Falcons. Starting out as a defensive specialist for the team, Rivera (the starting libero) went out with a concussion, and Taylor was given the opportunity to take over while Rivera was out. That spot stayed Taylors the rest of the season. She brought athleticism, steady serve receive, and an all-out mentality defensively to the back row that could not be stopped. Anderson was honored as the co-Lewis & Clark Player of the Year, an incredible feat for any athlete, but especially as a junior. She has shown steady improvement over the past year, playing for Volleyball Alliance, a smaller and newer club in the CEVA region. Garrity has showcased great improvement to her attacking over the past year and showcased her versatility during club and high school seasons. Trained as an outside attacker most of her career, she jumped into the middle and dominated for the Wildcats (and the league took notice, naming her to Metro First Team). Williams jumped a significant amount of spots in rankings due to her improvement in her all around game. Competing at a high level for both high school (Sheldon High School finished 1st in league) and club volleyball (Williams made Webfoot Jrs 18-1 National team), she is sure to make even more improvements to her game. Olsen made some major strides to her game over last club season and made the jump to varsity at Jesuit High School, a team that finished #2 in the 6A State tournament. Although she was not a starter for the Crusaders, she was typically the first player off the bench when an attacker was struggling to put the ball away. She will be playing for Athena 18-1 National this club season. Baley is a six-rotation outside attacker that was pivotal in Mazama High School’s incredible season. She helped the team get to a 19-2 overall record and 10-0 in league, gaining the first ever Skyline Conference Championship in school history. A multi-sport athlete, also a stud on the basketball court and softball field, Baley oozes athleticism which translates well on the volleyball court. Smith took on a big role this season for the Oregon Episcopal School volleyball team, as their go-to attacker, and stellar defender. A smaller school, the Aardvarks looked to Smith to put the ball away and keep the ball alive when passing. Smith was one of their only club players so she brought a competitive edge to the court. Bakker continues to elevate her game and brings steady ball control to the back row. Making the switch from Athena to NPJ Portland this season, she will have a chance to play at a high level with a new group of athletes (NPJ Portland is a new sect of NPJ).
