New Year, New List Of Five Freshman Setters From Indiana

New Year, New List Of Five Freshman Setters From Indiana

The initial watch list for the class of '25 is out, and we have a ton of talent to get through. Some of that talent goes unnoticed, mostly in the setter position. Here are five setters from the class of '25 in Indiana that should be given more attention moving forward.

[player_tooltip player_id="172310" first="Molly" last="Beatty"], 5-11, [program_tooltip program_id='431513' first='Munciana' last='Indy'], Herron

Not quite known for their volleyball prowess, Herron High School has an exceptional setter in their midst in Molly. Tall, long and lean, Miss Beatty can also attack from the right side if needed, but can run a 5-1 when around players at her talent or better. Her skills were well represented when she came to our Prep Dig Top 250 Expo a few weeks back, and seemed to connect well with the players around her.

[player_tooltip player_id="172318" first="Ava" last="Harris"], 5-10, [program_tooltip program_id='430155' first='Team' last='Pineapple'], Angola

The "other" setter at Angola, Ava is a long and lean hybrid of a player that can do multiple things on the court. Having the ability to attack, pass, defend and run a 5-1 (or 6-2) at any time is a great tool to have in that tool box that is TP's 16 Black (16-1) squad. I'm listing her as a setter here, as her most refined skill is in running an offense.

[player_tooltip player_id="154812" first="Kaitlyn" last="Kuckkan"], 5-7, Boiler Juniors, Lafayette Central Catholic

The only athlete on this list with a state championship trophy in her case, Kaitlyn was the setter for the LCC squad that knocked off Trinity Lutheran in 5 just two months ago. Now, she's one of a pair of setters on the 15 Elite Gold (15-1) roster that will make a ton of noise right away during the club season. Kaitlyn understands what it takes to play at the next level, too---her older sister, Gretchen, is on the roster at Valparaiso.

[player_tooltip player_id="152944" first="Charlotte" last="Vinson"], 6-1 S/OH, Munciana, Yorktown

I can't say enough about this kid. Long, lean, athletic, and a high volleyball IQ, Charlotte burst onto the "big girl" scene with commanding performances during the summer league at the Academy. In the midst of their early-season training, it was obvious to all in attendance that Miss Vinson could be used as a pin attacker, could be a 5-1 setter, or could be part of a straight 6-2. At any rate, leading the team in kills for a 29-4 squad AND being a solid setter is hard to come by in these days of position specialization. She can do it all, and is only going to get better. Another kid familiar with playing at the next level, Charlotte's older sister, Kate, is on the roster at Ball State.

[player_tooltip player_id="155212" first="Aysa" last="Thomas"], 5-10, Circle City, Brownsburg

All this young lady did is step up immediately after the Bulldogs' starting setter went down. Thrust into the setting position without warning is tough enough, but Aysa developed quickly for the perennial top ten 4A squad, averaging over 10 assists per set. Her sheer athleticism got her this far, so she'll use this club season on Circle's 15 Black (15-2) squad to refine those skills. A recurring theme here is that her older sister, Quinci, just committed to Xavier in the class of '23. She knows what it takes to get there, now it's just a matter of training.
