Providing leadership is a big key to the setter position.

As a young setter, it can be tough to take on that part of the role. However, we saw some calming leaders during the 16 Open/Premier of the President’s Day Challenge in Detroit last weekend.

[player_tooltip player_id="110278" first="Caroline" last="Baker"], FaR Out 16 Black

Baker has the luxury of playing with some talented hitting prospects, but she still shined in her own way. Baker runs a smooth offense and spreads the ball out very well. She looks very relaxed on the floor and seems in complete control of her team. FaR Out feeds off her vibe as well, staying composed throughout the tournament.

Elizabeth Wozniak, Michigan Elite 16 National East

Wozniak is part of a 2-setter system for this squad, also filling in as a OPP. Her athleticism allows her to excel at both positions. Wozniak has a really nice swing on her attacks with good arm speed. As a setter, she is able to make some athletic sets when incoming passes aren’t the best.

Skylar Cramer, AVBC 16 Elite

Cramer was a well-rounded player that was able to adapt to what was happening around her. Along with consistent sets, she was able to finish points on her own as well. Cramer also had a strong serve and good defensive instincts. She can be a helpful option at a lot of different areas.

Ava Orlando, Monsters 16 Elite

Orlando was another calm setter that didn’t get too rushed or rattled throughout the tournament. She maintained a high level of play and kept the rest of her teammates calm. Orlando also brought a strong serve to the team that helped give them some scoring rallies.

Sophia Lerch, Michigan Elite 16 National West

Lerch was a blur on the court sometimes because she was able to get around so quickly. Her athleticism really strengthened her play at setter, but also allowed her to showcase an impressive defensive game. With her quickness and motor, Lerch has a high upside.
