For some they’ve known for a while where they are going. The follow up question of, “Are you playing volleyball?”, “What are you majoring in?” are sure to follow. For these fifteen players they may not have their decision made, but they definitely should be on the radar of college coaches at the next level.
Maddie Crowley – Outside Hitter – Ashwaubenon
Crowley is definitely a player to keep tabs on for the next level. With national team experience with Wisconsin Volleyball Academy, Crowley will be a six rotation outside for Ashwaubenon this season who is starting to make some noise heading into the high school season. Crowley has the all around skills to play at the next level and would be a solid pick up as a teammate who has great body language and communication on the court.
Katelyn Sesolak – Middle Blocker – Arrowhead
Sesolak was spotted at the Wisconsin Badger Team Camp as a physical and dominant middle for Arrowhead. With a high volleyball IQ and the ability to play defense as well as transition, Sesolak is definitely a college prospect that can make an impact at the next level. With solid training in the Milwaukee club circuit, Sesolak is accustomed to playing against high level competition. Her ability to terminate off a quick or off one foot is on point.
Sierra Lee – DS/Outside Hitter – Westosha Central
So underrated, but gritty, Lee will do and play whatever position is needed to win for her team. Lee played defensive specialist this past club season and can provide a swing out of the backrow. At the Badger team camp, Lee could be a libero for Westosha Central, a backrow setter, or has the ability to swing on the pin as well. The Falcons have a solid Senior class with plenty of experience and Lee is someone who will be one of the leaders. She may not be the most vocal, but her grit and body language on the court is something to take note for college coaches.
Sheridan Dettman – Libero – Watertown
Dettman is definitely a hidden gem having played for the Capital Adidas 16s team, but will be heading into her Senior year of high school. Dettman can take pace off a hard driven swing and make it look easy. A solid quality about Dettman is that she makes plays look routine. The diving plays and saves get the glory, but coaches want someone they can depend on and can get to the spot before the ball does.
Carissa Sundholm – Outside Hitter – Wisconsin Lutheran
Division 3 coaches should be teaming up with their track coaches to get Sundholm who could be a dual sport threat. Sundholm is such an athlete who has an explosive attack from the pin. A state track qualifier, Sundholm will be one of the leaders, along with Grace Beyer and Julia Treichel who will be looking to take Wisconsin Lutheran to the Resch this season. Sundholm had just under 300 kills last season and over 250 digs.
Olivia Olson – Setter – New Holstein
Olson is a solid athlete who can do a little bit of everything for her team. In the club season, Olson runs a 5-1 offense and can be very offensive given the chance as a setter. She also plays great defense at the net and in the backrow. For her high school season she will do some swings from the pin making her such an all around threat to take over a match.
Makenna Krause – Libero – Hortonville
Krause is a libero with solid training from WVA and her high school coach, Laura Johnson, who was a former libero for Green Bay. Krause has a very similar style of play compared to Dettman. She will make the routine play, be in the right spot, and is solid in serve receive.
Grace Peyron – Right Side – Burlington
Playing for Burlington and being part of a winning culture is something that is not always on a stat sheet or metric. Peyron is a 5’11 left handed, right side hitter that is able to put up a solid block, but also score points for her team. Incredibly efficient and dynamic, Peyron would be a steal at the next level. She may not have the resume loaded with accolades, but all she knows is how to win and will continue to do the same this fall as Burlington looks to defend their title.
Heidi Compe – Middle Blocker – DeForest
Compe is a middle blocker who played for Wisconsin Performance this past club season. DeForest has a solid group of athletes and Compe is one who is very dynamic and strong out of the middle. The combination with strong upperclassmen and Sopheea Mink, the High Point recruit on the outside (or middle), will give DeForest a chance to sneak up on some teams this season.
Isabelle Martino – Setter – East Troy
East Troy will be one of the heavy favorites in Division 2 to make a run to state and compete for a state title. With a solid balance and depth of hitters, Martino is a 5’10 setter who will be the driver of the bus getting hitters involved and knowing when to set who in the right situation. Martino has national club experience for Capital Adidas and has the height and athleticism to run a 5-1 at the next level.
Taylor Ohm – Libero – Hartford Union
Hartford is on the rise in East Central Wisconsin and will have Ohm as the backbone to their defense. Ohm had over 300 digs last season and played for Royal in the 2018 club season. A solid athlete and leader, Ohm is definitely a hidden gem of the Class of 2019.
Jolie Larson – Setter/Pin – The Prairie School
Larson is so smooth as a player, and can play any position. After playing for Wisconsin Juniors 17-1, much of the offense went through Larson as a setter or hitter. An incredibly high IQ for the game, Larson would make for a solid pick up at the Division 3 or possibly Division 2 level where she could contribute in a variety of ways.
Abby Freundt – DS/Libero – Neenah
Freundt is part of a Senior dominated team in Neenah who won the Division 1 state title two years ago. Freundt had nearly 250 digs in 2017 as a defensive specialist and was quick to step in when Loyola recruit, Kayla Kraus went down with an illness towards the end of the season. With national team experience at Wisconsin Volleyball Academy, she will be one of the leaders this year for the Rockets who are looking to get back to the Resch and on top of the FVA.
Julia Klement – Outside Hitter – Shawano
Klement picked up close to 300 kills and over 200 digs for Shawano last season who finished with 29 wins. Klement is able to play on either pin and will be back this year for Shawano. Shawano will be looking to make some noise in the Bay Conference as one of the favorites along with Xavier as well as a deep postseason run in Division 2.
Katie Mattson – Outside Hitter – Luck
Explosive! Mattson is able to swing and score points in a flurry from anywhere in the front row. The Senior to be from Luck will be one of the top players in Western Wisconsin, building off All State honors and a solid club season for Kokoro 17-1 out of St. Paul. One of the best kept secrets in high school volleyball is the depth of the Lakeland Conference which Luck will be competing against Grantsburg, Clear Lake, Cameron, and Clayton to name a few.
