Here at PrepDig, we are committed to covering and promoting as many prospects as possible, from the most popular names to the hidden gems that typically abound at the Lone Star State and during the high school season we’re also doing it by featuring the teams they play at.
Every time we’re at the gym, we take the time to give a good look at the teams on the court and we’ll try to feature as many as possible here in this space. This time we’ll dissect the Klein Collins Tigers.
The Squad
The Tigers are having the privilege of working with virtually the same squad they had last season – middle blocker Brooke Box is the most noticeable absence. The team remains strong in the middle with Ariana Goode Ariana Goode 6'0" | MB Klein Collins | 2023 TX and Ashlynn Hollins and has a pair of exciting sophomores in Anna Blaine Anna Blaine 6'1" | S Concordia Lutheran | 2024 State TX and Kristina Cote.
Key Players
One of the most promising setters in the state, Blaine has stepped up to a key role with Klein Collins this season. Very technical and calm, she does a great job as a playmaker and still has the massive bonus of standing at 6’1″. She’s very mobile on the court and uses her size well to block and score on setter dumps and swings.
Highlights
Ashlynn Hollins
Ashlynn Hollins
A player with tremendous upside, Hollins has been dominating the middle this season for the Tigers. Very long and athletic, she has been a factor for Klein Collins on both sides of the ball, impacting the game on offense and defense. Her offense is still coming together, but her tremendous reach and firepower make her very difficult to stop. When blocking, Hollins stands our for her range and reading.
Kristina Kote
Kristina Kote
Klein Collins’ leading scorer in the season, Kote has emerged as a viable option at the net for the Tigers. She has good firepower on her right arm and, by pairing it with her good length and vertical, she can be difficult to stop, especially when in-system. Her backcourt game is an area in which Kote can still improve her game.
Murillo does a great job of providing the team with some defensive stability alongside libero Keely-Ann Shelnutt. She typically defends on the left and stands out for her excellent positioning and her ability to control hard-driven hits coming from across the net. Murillo is also extremely consistent and dependable with her passing, splitting the court with Shelnutt.
An extremely athletic middle blocker, Goode makes a good pair with Hollins down the middle for Klein Collins. She’s extremely strong in her lower body and that helps her to have a great vertical, further increasing her impact at the net. Goode is well-versed offensively, combining good firepower with her ability to hit different sets, but is even better when blocking thanks to her excellent reading of the game and timing.
