We spend hours on these rankings but with hundreds of players, we get a bit dizzy. Meanwhile, we are trying to keep track of which club team they are on and which school they’ve committed to. Some players we get to see a number of times, others just a few times, and maybe it’s been a while. Sometimes we have to depend on videos such as BallerTV or Hudl highlights. We get feedback from coaches from a number of clubs and high schools as well as other scouts that may see them at big tournaments crossing state borders. In the end, we do our best to get players the coverage they deserve. So, with that, I wanted to shine a light on a few players from the final 2023 rankings that I wish I had gotten to see play more.
Eigner is an athlete that I really wanted to see more before the final rankings. She helped Benilde St. Margaret to an impressive post season run this fall and was named to the Class AAA State All-Tournament Team. Eigner currectly plays for MN Select 18-2 and is committed to play for Division 1, Holy Cross. She’s highly effective in and out of system and knows how to find the open court. Eigner is a violent attacker I would have loved to see in action 1 more time!
Gunderson was named to the Class AAA All-State Team in the fall while competing for Detroit Lakes. She is on Northern Lights 18-2 team and committed to play for Division 1, New Orleans. Gunderson can terminate from either pin and has a great thumb down swing. She can place the ball in the deep cross corner or go hard line.
Karrick is currently playing with Northern Lights 18-Black and committed to play for Division 1, Morgan State. She has a knack for knowing when to call her own number but she also had a great connection with hitters like Kate Simington Kate Simington 6’4″ | MB Minnetonka | 2023 State #174 Nation MN and Hannah Jackson Hannah Jackson 6’1″ | OH Minnetonka | 2025 State MN while playing for Minnetonka. Karrick can score with a single hand sneaky dump, a fake out set dump, or the turn and swing. Every single one is terminal. She also does a great job of using all of her weapons across the net.
Kircher has a knack for finding the campfire with her setter dump. She does a great job getting her feet to the ball and consistently jump setting. She had a great connection with Cece Plasch and Abigail Kline Abigail Kline 6’3″ | MB Cretin-Derham Hall | 2023 State MN while playing for Cretin-Derham Hall. She currently plays for M1 18-1 and is committed to play for Division 1 Fairleigh Dickinson.
McTeague had a solid prep career at Concordia Academy and is currently playing as a defensive specialist for Northern Lights 18-2. She does a really good job taking care of the middle back and stepping into the split or the ball that goes high off blockers hands. McTeague is committed to play for Division 3, Carthage in the fall.
