A Rare Glimpse At Players From 14s

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>May 7th was the second day of the SCVA girl's 14s Battle for the Bids II. The age groups that I have been around are the 16s and 18s, so I was happy to see younger players performing. This article, which I may turn into a series, is to showcase younger players who are making a name for themselves in this sport. Although the players come from the class of 2026, 2027, or 2028 because they are playing up, the seasons go by so fast those graduating classes will be here before we know it. She has the IQ of someone who knows the game. This was observant of how she knew which hitter to feed the ball to, not setting it into the block. She had no fear going up against a double block at the net and jousting whichever opponent had hands on the ball. She did not hesitate to go after a ball by diving and digging. She has nice hands and a nice back set on target with minimal to no ball spin. Sami has quick footwork to get to the ball and has great court vision, seeing open areas for tips. Time will help her grow more advanced and experienced in the sport. Her upcoming high school years will be fun to follow. She has strong arms, being able to push a set cross-court to the desired location for an attack to be executed. She has just the right amount of tempo to set the ball to a perfect spot. Not too many 14s players jump set like Addisyn. She gets under the ball quickly and can deliver fast sets to her pins for an attack. With the upcoming high school years and club seasons, she will gain crucial experience. She has a strong arm and can bring about a lot of power to her attacks. Her height gives her an advantage when she has to block at the net. She is quick and has good footwork which helps her get to the ball. She has a nice cross-court shot when she's on the outside that gets through the block. On right side she also utilizes her approach and power to score. Saige can pass the ball to create a good set and can tool the block to score. On offense, she attacks the ball at both sides of the net and has a jump serve that can get her opponents out of system. On defense she is not afraid to dive for a ball stopping it from hitting the floor, she has a nice vertical that gets her up in the air to penetrate the net for a block. She covers back row and is pretty consistent at the serve-receive pass, popping the ball up to her setter. More time and development will keep her at the top of her game. That is the first thing noticed before a game starts. Then when she gets on the court, her talent and skills are also recognized. She gets up on the ball and here comes the boom. She has a fast approach and quick arm swing that connects to the ball and an attack follows. Her hits in front of the ten foot line are very impressive for her age.  She has high hands and can penetrate the net for blocks. Ireland can hit over blocks and tailor the angles of her hit. She can also pass and still get into position to kill the ball.  With these upcoming years of learning and play, she will be a force on the court both offense and defense wise. By running, diving, and sliding back row, she helps provide good defensive pressure. She has a quick lateral movement from side to side that helps her cover areas of the court and after she goes down, she's back on her feet. Even with some missed balls, her confidence remained high and she maintained good energy on the court. She is light on her feet and has a good reaction time. She gets into position to cover hitters, is ready for the tip over, and helps dig the attacks. She is alert on the court and is prepared to bump set if the setter can't get to the second ball. The expectation for a libero is high when it comes to making a solid pass and being above average when it comes to back-row defense. She can make good passes and dig up balls on defense. After passing from back row, she gets into position to cover the hitter. When passing, she has a solid platform that helps with controlling the ball. She knows when she should swing away or tip the ball over to score. She is an all around six-rotation player who contributes on offense and defense. She can pass to start the offense,  score on attacks, and can effectively defend with digs. Mia knows how to adjust if a set is off and can  capitalizes from the adjustment by still generating a strong hit. As they continue to mature and grow in the game their experience and skills will become more developed and precise. Time will bring them better understanding, maturity, and greatness.
