All 8 courts have been action-packed from start to finish and it just keeps getting better. I wanted to quick share five players from the 16’s division that you will definitely want to catch in action. Personally, I can’t wait to see what they bring on day 2!
I’m pretty sure Maue has a rocket built into her left arm. She sneaks into the middle out of serve receive and almost takes out the opposing teams libero. Maue has a high contact point and is lethal if left without a blocker in front of her. She is part of a roster full of athletic arms and I love her versatily across the net. Maue generates a lot of power and has a wide range of floor area that she can hit.
Bell puts a wicked topspin on the ball when she hits from the backrow. She makes the ball dive at the last second and tags the endline. Bell plays scrappy defense and takes care of her deep corners. She is solid in serve receive and always available to attack no matter where she is on the court.
Ignash hits with a really heavy arm right back at the opposing teams setter. She runs a slide route in front of her setter and destroys the ball. Ignash is a key element in the middle for her team and she makes a big impact on both sides of the ball. She has a lot of tools and athleticism along with great experience against tough competition. When the setters put the ball in her hands she is incredibly effective.
Highlights
Barcenas is a fierce competitor and a fiesty setter. She reads the play on the ball really well and jump sets consistently. You can see her working as a driving force and motivator for her teammates. Barcenas had some really big-play moments on defense on day 1. She has good balance, movement, and reacts quickly to the ball off the passers platform.
Highlights
Tarkowski takes a fast swing just outside the blockers reach. If her setters push it all the way to the pin she is virtually unstoppable. She can be lethal from anywhere on the net. I saw her running a number of different routes whether she was in serve receive, transition, or off a free ball. Tarkowski stays balanced in her approach and contributes in all 6 rotations for this RVA squad.
