Double Digits of Iowa Outside Hitters Heading D1

Here are some that will be heading the Division 1 route with others who will make significant impacts other divisions as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="16964" first="Madi" last="Kubik"] - WDM Valley - PowerPlex - Enrolled Early at Nebraska

Kubik was such a treat to watch from her all around skill set, to how she could just fly above the block, and the big smile she would have to celebrate with her teammates. Kubik has had training with USA Volleyball competing in international competitions as well as plenty of honors in the state including back to back Gatorade State Player of the Year in 2017 and 2018. She will be the first in line of Kubik sisters with Hayden coming up as a rising prospect in 2022 as well as more in the youth programs.

[player_tooltip player_id="16966" first="Kenna" last="Sauer"] - Ankeny Centennial - PowerPlex - Committed to Missouri

Sauers style of play is absolute smash mouth volleyball. She approaches with such aggressiveness its comparable to a running back going through a seam in the line that ultimately leads to a touchdown. Sauer can play all six rotations and may be one of the better defenders in the state not only in the backrow, but you get her and [player_tooltip player_id="16968" first="Emily" last="Holterhaus"] or [player_tooltip player_id="17088" first="Devyn" last="Robinson"] combining for a double block and its a tough wall to get through. She is extremely solid when it comes to blocking the slide which opponents can usually depend on taking advantage of outside hitters, not with Sauer. Sauer was also able to play in the state basketball tournament with Ankeny Centennial.

[player_tooltip player_id="40743" first="Bree" last="Thompson"] - Janesville - CIA - Committed to Lipscomb

One of the most decorated players Iowa has seen from the off the chart stats to three state titles, Thompson will be heading to Nashville, Tennessee to play for Lipscomb. Lipscomb is Christian liberal arts school that competes in the Atlantic Sun Conference with the likes of Stetson, Kennesaw State, and Florida Gulf Coast. They did make an appearance in Iowa City last year for a tournament and beat the Hawks 3-2. Thompson is a scorer who hasn’t met a swing she didn’t like, she can hurt a team hard cross or cross body down the line, she could make an early impact. Oh, and their basketball team is playing in the NIT tonight.

[player_tooltip player_id="40746" first="Ari" last="Winters"] - Ankeny Centennial - PowerPlex - Committed to Denver

Denver is starting to build a pipeline to Iowa with Winters coming in and just picking up CIS Class of 2022 setter [player_tooltip player_id="79232" first="Lauren" last="Carter"]. They already have [player_tooltip player_id="79666" first="Ellie" last="Anderson"] of Linn-Mar and Lauren McManus of Waterloo Columbus. Winters will bring a skill set that will allow her to play on either pin and someone who knows how to win. From being on a state championship team in high school to a club that is one of the tops in the culture, it’s tough to put a price tag on someone who knows what it takes to win.

Hayley Bush - Waukee - PowerPlex - Committed to Drake

Bush will be staying close to home and will play for Drake who has developed into a threat in the Missouri Valley Conference. Despite being hurt for part of the high school season, Bush was still able to lead Waukee to the state tournament. A long, athletic, and finesse style of play, she can just find ways to score points with shots to the open court or using the block to her advantage, a bit crafty to say the least. She will join up with another 2019 top prospect in [player_tooltip player_id="40767" first="Maddy" last="Baxter"] of Cedar Rapids Jeff/Adrenaline who will join the Drake program as a setter.

[player_tooltip player_id="40756" first="Aubrey" last="Putman"] - Wilton - Iowa Rockets - Committed to Western Illinois

Putman was part of the Wilton High School team who made one of the bigger upsets this year in defeating Grundy Center for the right to go to the Class 2A state tournament. In that match, Putman went off for 25 kills, hitting .396 along with double digit digs. This was the story of the season for Putman and the Beavers. Western Illinois is part of the Summit League which will compete against Denver ([player_tooltip player_id="40746" first="Ari" last="Winters"]) and multiple players heading to South Dakota and South Dakota State.

[player_tooltip player_id="40752" first="Jaedynn" last="Evans"] - Iowa City Regina - Eastern Iowa Xtreme - Committed to Iowa

Evans was an early commit to Central Michigan, but will get to play in her backyard by signing on with the Hawkeyes. Evans can do a little bit of everything and she could be looked at a solid defender/libero much like Hawkeye and West Liberty alum, Molly Kelly. This past season, Evans was the big go to for Regina averaging over four kills per set.

[player_tooltip player_id="40749" first="Aimee" last="Adams"] - Carrol Kuemper - PowerPlex - Committed to South Dakota

Adams bring an athletic style of play and a powerful left handed swing to the court where she was able to capture a state title for Kuemper in Class 3A this Fall. This club season, Adams is playing or PowerPlex who has an Open bid and will be looking to make some noise in Dallas at the end of the month. She will be one of three Iowans heading to South Dakota who is coming off an NCAA Tournament appearance.

[player_tooltip player_id="40758" first="Delaney" last="McSweeney"] - Center Point-Urbana - CIA - Committed to Wake Forest

At 6’6 McSweeney brings a pretty physically imposing presence to the net. This past year for CPU she tallied 300 kills and 82 total blocks. She will be heading to the ACC to compete for Wake Forest who is also bringing in one of the top players in Minnesota in Peyton Suess from Kasson-Mantorville.

Other Notable Commits For Outside Hitters From The Class of 2019

[player_tooltip player_id="40753" first="Raina" last="Smith"] - Davenport Central - Iowa Rockets - UMKC

Abby Fryauf - West Branch - Iowa Rockets - South Dakota State

MaKayla Geise - Roland Story - IPVA - Valparaiso

[player_tooltip player_id="40778" first="Akeela" last="Jefferson"] - Cedar Rapids Xavier - Adrenaline - South Dakota State

Looking for a great way to prepare your team for Nationals or end your season on a high note?
