Camp Coverage: Kansas Players Excelling At KWU Team Camp

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Head Coach Jessica Biegert and her staff at Kansas Wesleyan University are in the middle of hosting a three-day Elite Camp in Salina.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Prep Dig attended the third of five camp sessions and scouted players specifically from Kansas. More than 35 high school players from multiple states are attending the camp and getting the chance to compete with and against current Coyote players.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I also plan to attend the Saturday morning session which includes team tournament play.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Here is a report of six players from the Class of 2024 who caught my attention.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='514633' first='Brooke' last='Galey']</strong>, 5'7”, OH/RS, Anderson County</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Galey has a sweet approach and crushes the ball down the line or cross-court. She has seen significant action at the varsity level since her freshman year and had numbers have increased with each year.  Galey has good timing and can get up high above the net. She plays club ball for the Lawrence Landsharks and has offers from both NAIA and JUCO programs.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='216391' first='Callie' last='Powell']</strong>, 5'10”, OH/RS, Abilene</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Powell is a jumper with a compact swing. She is a two-way player racking up 200-plus kills and digs during her junior season at Abilene. The Abilene prospect had several impressive digs that I witnessed during a 3-on-3 drill. She plays club ball for KS Networks and has verbally committed to play for Kansas Wesleyan.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Kayla Houghtaling</strong>, 5'5”, S/DS, Augusta</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Augusta has a solid setter heading into the 2023 season. Houghtaling is a highly skilled setter who not only sets up her attackers consistently but also has a tip game that scores enough points to take over a contest. She plays club ball with Shockwave and is currently uncommitted. The Augusta prospect also has a really nice serve, that will play at the next level.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Maddie Tegeler</strong>, 5'10”, MB, Shawnee Mission North Mission</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Tegeler is a physical specimen who could get even better by adding some upper-body strength. She also passes the ball well for a player who primarily plays middle. She has offers from multiple NAIA programs but has yet to commit.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Emmi Burris</strong>, 6'0”, MB/OH, Caney Valley</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I really like Burris' game. She is all arms and legs and has multiple blocks during the camp session I scouted. She has quick reactions and has solid instincts of when to not go up for a block she can't get rather than blocking the ball out of bounds. The Caney Valley prospect is looking for her first college offer.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Jenna Tuttle</strong>, 5'2”, DS, Mill Valley</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Tuttle's best attribute is her accurate serve. She serves well to zones and can hit all six zones. She needs to improve her on-court confidence and communication.  The Mill Valley prospect makes consistent first passes and has solid footwork. She is also looking for her first college offer.            </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
