Day 1 Standouts from the Prep Dig Varsity Sizzle

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Day 1 of the Varsity Sizzle is over, and it was an awesome day of high-level competition. Teams from across Wisconsin along with Caledonia out of Minnesota and Ottowa out of Illinois, went head to head. Teams who don't usually play each other in-season were able to see new competition and prep for the season. This tournament is a ton of fun and one that always makes me excited for high school season. Here are some Day 1 standouts from the Varsity Sizzle. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='445373' first='Jolie' last='Jacques'] - Outside Hitter - 2025 - Bay Port</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Jolie was dynamic and a consistent all-around player for Bay Port. She had great shots and moved her swings around. Jolie was consistent in out-of-system situations and did not make a lot of errors. She had a clean pass as well and was a player that her team could rely on to terminate at the net. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Anna Anderson - Setter - 2024 - Caledonia (MN)</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Anna is athletic and has a clean touch on the ball. She never missed a beat on the court and put up beautiful sets for her hitters. She swung in the front row and had some impact plays on offense. Anna was a natural leader on the team, running the offense efficiently, keeping all her hitters involved, and always bettering the ball. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='453619' first='Alyssa' last='Koval'] - Outside Hitter - 2026 - Winneconne</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Alyssa is an explosive athlete who can rip balls with full power out of the front and back rows. She has huge potential and several years left of her high school career. She is powerful and quick on the court. She puts up a big block and is an impact player on defense and serve-receive. Alyssa has consistently high contact with the ball. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='180367' first='Gillian' last='Koning'] - Outside Hitter - 2024 - Edgewood</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Gillian was a huge leader on the court today. This Edgewood team is stacked with talent, including Natalie Ring (NC State), [player_tooltip player_id='181747' first='Diane' last='Pichelman'] (UW-Green Bay), and [player_tooltip player_id='249623' first='Addie' last='Oeth']. However, Gillian stood out as a consistent force for her team. She played all six rotations and was confident in her teammates. Gillian was key on offense but really stepped up in the back row to provide great passes on serve receive. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='178349' first='Katy' last='Ilkka'] - Libero - 2025 - Pacelli </h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Katy was all over the court today. She impressed me with her court awareness and communication. Nothing got past her on defense. She was always talking and took control of the back row. Her confidence and consistent play helped Pacelli go 3-0 on day 1 of the Sizzle. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Isabella Boudwin - Outside Hitter - 2024 - Luxemburg-Casco</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Isabella was explosive on the pin for Luxemburg-Casco. She had great kills and was disciplined in transition - helping her earn points in out-of-system situations. She initially caught my eye with her simple and consistent serve receive. Her platform and angles are precise, and she puts up great passes time and time again. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='392835' first='Kailyn' last='Kurth'] - Setter - 2025 - Marshfield </h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Kailyn runs a clean offense. She plays at a high level on every point, and it shows in her success on the court. She has great form, runs down every ball, and gets her feet set. Kailyn kept her hitters hungry for more and ran a fast-tempo offense even when she was off the net. She is a talented setter and athlete. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='178235' first='Maddie' last='Wolfram'] - Libero - 2025 - Notre Dame Academy </h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Maddie has to be one of the most frustrating liberos to play against. She gets a touch on everything. You can never count a ball down when she is in the backcourt. She reacts quickly and gets great contacts on the ball - even if it is just a fist or even a finger. Maddie is an athlete on the rise in this class and was very impressive today. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='209368' first='Mia' last='Jannazzo'] - Outside Hitter - 2026 - Waukesha West</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Mia was on fire today. She took swing after swing and earned points like it was her job. Her defense was equally as valuable. Mia has great court awareness and knows exactly where to sink her shots to manufacture points. She is an explosive athlete who is an impact player. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='284080' first='Emma' last='Duff'] - Setter - 2026 - Brookfield Central </h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Emma is a very talented setter and one to watch in this class. As a sophomore, she was running a 5-1 for Brookfield Central on day 1 of the Sizzle. She is quick, efficient, and clean. She is an athlete to watch in this class - and is already making a huge impact in both club and high school. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='388468' first='Hannah' last='Mlsna'] - Middle Hitter - 2026 - Madison Memorial </h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Hannah is a physical middle hitter. She is aggressive, powerful, and consistent. She was an impact player on defense. Hannah puts up a massive block that is strong and impenetrable. She gets great touches and is an awesome first line of defense. She can terminate on offense and always finds a way to make herself available for her setter. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='181819' first='McKenna' last='Oetzman'] - Setter - 2024 - Reedsburg </h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>McKenna took her talent to a whole new level today. She was firing balls to all of her hitters at an impressive rate. She has a ton of raw athletic talent and is explosive as she moves to the ball. McKenna is they type of athlete who finds ways to make even the toughest balls work for her. She works hard to put up a great set on every ball she gets her hands on. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
