About Imani

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

Hey, I’m Imani! I love God, my family, my puppy, and VOLLEYBALL! I’m smart, strong, fast, and I’m used to fast game pace, scrappy, and have a powerful swing. I cover well and play good off block defense. I also block well. I like sets high, and just off the net to swing my best. I’m very excited about this club season, and hope to see you on the road!

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

My mentality is resilience. I have the ability to bounce back so, no matter how much we’re down in a game, I know how to fight.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I’m in AP classes and was just given awards for maintaining above a 3.5 GPA while completing school, club season and travel obligations for our Choir competitions. I was also given an award for our honors Choir. I’m also a member of Jack & Jill, an organization that dedicated to community service and education.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I am learning how to lead, because I’m not one who needs to be out front. I lead through serving others. I think it’s important that everyone know that they can lead, and contribute. I like to encourage and support whoever is on the court, whether it’s with my swing, or blocks, or the way I rally my team when we are fighting back. You can’t go wrong with being a great teammate.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Three years ago I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. I have had to learn to overcome and pay attention to my body like never before. I’ve learned so much in the last 3 years, but the most important is that I can overcome anything. My family and my faith in God have shown me that. I believe I am stronger and more resilient because of it.

What type of college are you looking for?

D-1, medium size school with Psychology major, theology minor. I’d like a school that loves its athletic teams and has a place for the arts as well. I’d also love to play for a coach who wants to build a culture…. Oh and a school with good gluten/dairy free food options!

Imani was voted a top performer at the DMV Expo last year. She is extremely explosive but she lacks consistency. Last year for McNamara she finished third on the team in kills. Unfortunately, she had more errors than kills for a negative hitting percentage.

She appears to have acquired that consistency with Maryland Juniors over the club season, one reason for rising in the rankings from 177 to 155. Her younger sister Sierra Thomas Sierra Thomas Sierra Thomas 5'11" | OH Bishop McNamara | 2029 State VA will be one of the top prospects in the class of 2029.

The athleticism and explosiveness are there. Now she just has to put it together. If that happens I foresee a bigger jump in the rankings.
