Beware of the Prep Dig Gauntlet “Block Party” – Top Blockers Coming To Madison
Everyone loves a block party, however in the world of volleyball you don’t want to be on the receiving end of a block party. This weekend at the Prep Dig Gauntlet will feature some top defensive players at the net who will make a big presence for their team. Take a look at some athletes who can get their hands high, over, and take away a shot from the opposing team.
Emma Wollert – FC Elite 17 Navy – Class of 2020
Committed to Truman State (MO)
Wollert has really been climbing up the radar and has burst onto the club volleyball scene this year with her physical play at the net. She can move quickly from pin to pin, but can also close extremely well getting a positive touch or sending it straight to the ground on the other side of the net.
Alexis Moses – Iowa Rockets 15R – Class of 2022
Moses #28 blocking at Northern Lights QualifierCommitted To South Dakota
Moses has been showing her athleticism all club season for Iowa Rockets who was right on the borderline of getting an At-Large Open bid with strong showings at MEQ and some quality wins at Northern Lights. Moses committed right before the new recruiting rules went into effect on May 1. She will be heading to South Dakota which has established a strong pipeline of players from Iowa and Iowa Rockets. Her motor is constantly going and is always working to get high and over the net while also quick to transition, making her available to swing.
Bailey Manuel – RVA 17 Navy- Class of 2020
Manuel plays for Brookfield East High School and is a 6’2 middle who brings an athletic style of play and physicality to the court. While also being on the AVCA Phenom program, she will be part of an RVA squad out of the Waukesha outside of Milwaukee who is full of talented multisport athletes.
Kyla Dunaway – FC Elite 14 Navy – Class of 2023
The Class of 2023 will be finishing up their final days of Junior High and will be only a few months away from a chance to wear a Varsity volleyball jersey. That could be the case for Kyla Dunaway who is solid on the right side for FC Elite 14 Navy. At 6’3, she can put up a big block and a heavy swing to create some havoc for FC Elite. Not only is Dunaway one to watch on the volleyball hardcourt, but she is a top basketball player in her class as well (both sports made it to state for Kimberly this past season which is where Dunaway will attend high school).
Katie Prondzinski of 17 RoyalKatie Pogodzinski – 17 Royal – Class of 2020
Pogodzinski will be part of a Royal team that has put together a really strong season. Pogodzinski is in the top 100 in the Class of 2020 in Wisconsin and has come on strong as a middle blocker offensively and defensively. She could also be effective on the right side with a strong block and swing with her athleticism.
Hannah Reichensperger – MN North 16-1 – Class of 2022
Abby Thompson – MN North 16-1 – Class of 2021
The combination of these two athletes makes for a middle presence always at the net with MN North. The 16s team is really strong and when in systems getting these two involved they can be very dangerous. At the net both are over six feet tall and very dynamic and athletic allowing them to move from pin to pin and also get up quickly.
Spann of CISJacey Spann – CIS 17M – Class of 2020
Olivia Curry – CIS 17M – Class of 2020
Curry just committed to Omaha as a setter and can swing on the right side as well. A swiss army type of player that can do anything for her team. She makes a great combination with her high school teammate, Jacey Spann, at West Des Moines Valley. Spann is a fast twitch, major jumps type of middle where she can play above the net and really take an opposing hitter out of the game. These two have played in big matches and will have one more year of high school and club to play together making a really solid double block.
Berkley Mischler – FC Elite 15 Navy – Class of 2022
Mischler is touching right at 10 feet and has a really solid knack for timing. Watching Mischler at Northern Lights 15 Open she had some big time blocks results in some momentum swings for FC Elite 15 Navy. She is quick to get her feet to the spot, gets her hands high, and knows how to press. Definitely one to keep on the radar for all levels as she continues to develop her game out of the middle.
