About Abigail

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I like to be aggressive and I play well under pressure. I’m a fighter, I don’t give up easily and I like to win.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I try to always stay positive because you never know what can happen. I want to win and I like to win, but even when we don’t win looking at what we can learn from it to get better is a win. I have been told I am very coachable. I always seek out ways I can improve.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I enjoy dance and I was in NJHS this past year. I’ve been on AB Honor Roll and I’m very involved in my church and on the student leadership team there.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have always been a leader since I was little, but have learned that to be a good leader you first need to be a good follower so you can lead others well so I strive to do both. I love helping people and have served people doing various things at my church. I also love being part of a team and helping keep each other up.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I am dyslexic. It is a constant challenge. It takes me twice as long often times to do the school work others do, but I’ve tried never to let that limit me on what I try to do. I got As and Bs in all advanced classes last year, but it is a constant challenge I have to deal with.

What type of college are you looking for?

One with a good Business program and a positive atmosphere.

When she got going, Powell was probably the most impressive offensive player on the court. Adjusting to different setters in just a couple of hours can be tricky, but when she got that sorted out, opponents had no answer for her at the net. Big and physical, Powell presented a wide variety of shots at the pin and was able to put a lot of power into them, making it impossible for opposing defenders to control the heavy balls she was sending across the net. Powell also appeared well with her blocking, getting stops in 1v1 plays at the pin.
