Absolutely explosive and a straight up treat to watch. Grab your popcorn because Ross detonates from that OH position. She’s a six rotation beast, so you’re never missing the action front row, back row, doesn’t matter, she’s coming for points. Super athletic and skilled, she jumps out of the gym with an explosive vertical that leads to jaw dropping kills. When she hits it, you hear it and if you happen to be in the way, you’ll definitely feel it. If Ross is in the gym, you stop what you’re doing and watch. Must‑see every time. 

Just when you didn’t think she could get any more explosive and electrifying, it seems like Kolby has. She is playing like she has something to prove so far for Adversity 16 Adidas. Spotting the ball at a high rate, cross-court, line, all in various ways, she doesn’t just need to swing for the fences, she will push when needed as well, and tool the block with the best. Hitting from the back row has become the best weapon of them all. Defense makes her a 6 rotation Outside at the next level.

Competitor to say the least. Explosiveness and versatility with the best of them. She is getting a lot of reach and height on the ball for her placement with decisive points of attack. Her defense extends to the back row as well as her point of attack on the ball. The fight doesn’t go away easily until she is on the right end of the battle.

Kolby Ross Kolby Ross 5'9" | OH/RS Lincoln Way East | 2028 State IL may have been the most explosive hitter I saw all day. Her hits were forceful and powerful. She carried a quiet confidence about her. She was explosive and decisive when at the net. The kills I saw from her were just that, ball kills, and in play. I’m pretty sure after one of her hits, the flap on the ball was peeling off!

Kolby is a can’t miss athlete who like Sade Bello will catch your eye right away during warmups. She jumps out of the gym and swings with a ton of power. This young lady doesn’t take a single rep off – she’s all out, all the time. Ross is able to generate so much power on every swing because she works hard to get really deep in transition and serve receive, then waits until the last minute to take a huge approach and smoke the ball. And put on your helmet when she comes inside to hit the two-ball up the middle because it is lethal, same with overpasses. Kolby also has an exceptional ability to hit a sharp and hard cross court shot inside the middle blocker, allowing her to get kills even when the block is closed. Add to all of this her excellent blocking ability (very disciplined, doesn’t reach and presses way over) and you have a player who is destined to make waves in both club and college.

I became a big fan of Kolby Ross Kolby Ross 5'9" | OH/RS Lincoln Way East | 2028 State IL ‘s game this past weekend for Adversity 15 Adidas.  The pin attacker can do a little bit of everything and is always providing positive touches for her side of the net.  She is fast to the ball on the outside and can score points on the right side out of serve receive. She is a sideout machine.  I was watching their match next to the R1 where Ross was the floor captain.  She was so composed in talking with the official, I am always impressed with how spoken these athletes are in a high stakes situation.  That’s a star next to her name for that in itself. 

Kolby made the trip down from Chicago and straight from the get-go established that she came to play. I rarely see underclassmen utilize their core for power the way Kolby did & all the kills down the line were a product of it. She’s a high flyer, and I expect Lincoln Way East to showcase her at the Varsity level immediately. This weekend was my first time seeing her & all I’m left to say is, look out Illinois.
