It’s determined by the number of kills, minus any errors, then divided by the number of attempts. And just like in baseball those players in in the .200’s are top notch. Players at .300 or above are sure to dominate at any level. Well, these seven players have some of the best hitting efficiency in the state and some even make the Dodgers look bad.
Marlee Turn: From Kittson County Central this senior is hitting off the charts. At 5’8” she is somewhat undersized in the middle but she understand how to score and always keeps the ball in play. Her hitting effiecny is an astounding .445. With nearly 700 attempts she has only erred approximately 40 times. She had 450+ kills last year and will have no problem exceeding that this year.
Emma Honsa: At 6’1 Honsa is the top offensive threat for her team, Cretin Derham Hall. Having played nearly ever position for Mizuno M1 Volleyball, she can score from anywhere on the net. Her high school uses her on the outside. In her most recent match vs. Irondale, she had 29 kills with 11 errors out of 57 attempts. That gives her an impressive .316 for that match. On average she tends to be around .267, but she stepped up her game to help her team beat them in 5 sets.
Kira Fallert: This junior consistently puts up great numbers. Most recently while at Southwest Christian Showcase tournament, her team- Concordia Academy, lost in two to top-ranked Kasson Mantorville; but, Kirah fought hard with 11 kills off 25 attempts and only 3 errors for a .320! They lost 18-25 and 20-25.
Maddy Hornyak: As a member of the Lakeville North team, it can be hard to make a name for yourself, but junior, Maddy Hornyak, is their rising star. At 5’10” she’s a lethal part of their offense. To date, shes had over 400 attempts. Their coaches and setters trust she will handle the ball well. She had a game high of 29 kills vs East Ridge and 24 in their win against Champlin Park.
Sami Hiley: Of course the names we have heard on repeat, earn their recognition too. Take for example, Champlin Park‘s Sami Hiley. This 5’11 senior often hits over 400! This is incredible for a high school player. She just doesn’t make errors. In her team’s five match win over Centennial, she added 19 kills with 2 errors out of 41 total attempts. That is a efficiency of .415. If a baseball player hits this well they’d surely make millions.
Paige Thibault: Watertown-Mayer junior on the outside has already had three matches where she hit over .300. She has been gaining momentum in recent matches and will need to continue to cut down on her mistakes if she hopes to help her team beat Mayer Lutheran in their next face-off.
Ellie Sieling: Last on our list is Bloomington Jefferson’s young sophomore, Ellie. She is an emerging threat who averages 8.1 kills per match with only 2.4 errors/match. Take for example her play against Wonconia: her team lost in two sets, but Ellie hit an unbelievable .733% with 12/15 being kills and only had a single error. She doesn’t just keep the ball in play, but she knows how to produce kills.
