Mojave River League, High Desert Battles Part IV

The Mojave River League has six schools in their conference; Apple Valley, Burroughs, Hesperia, Oak Hills, Serrano, and Sultana. Their league is part of the CIF Southern Section and although Burroughs is located in Ridgecrest, they are a part of the battles in the high desert. The volleyball rivalry in the Mojave River League has been competitive. With the second round of play started, meet some of the Sultana Lady Sultans below. Follow them on their IG: sultana.volleyball   Coached by Dwayne Wibeto, several assistant coaches are helping with the program and player development. Assisting Wibeto are Anna Dees, Annie Mitaina, Lisa Anaya, Shane Haldeman, and Shannon Humphrey. The Sultans are working on improving their standings. This is the fourth part of showcasing schools and players in the high desert.    Hailey Carreon, a right-side hitter, can tool the block, making her a needed force on the volleyball court. With her quick decision-making and ball control, Hailey can consistently angle her attacks to deflect off the hands of blockers, making it difficult for defenses to react. Her swings and strategic shot placement allow her to capitalize on even the smallest gaps in the opposing team's block. Hailey's skill at tooling the blocks in high-pressure situations or during extended rallies makes her an asset to her team's offensive strategy.     Maggie Warden plays all around and is a smart outside hitter, having powerful attacks that result in effective kills. With a combination of athleticism and precision, Maggie delivers hard-hitting spikes that overwhelm opposing defenses, making her a key offensive weapon for her team. Her ability to read the defense and adjust her approach allows her to find open spaces or exploit weaknesses in the block, often turning tight sets into decisive points. Whether she's hitting cross-court or down the line, Maggie's strong attacking presence keeps her team in control and puts constant pressure on the opposition.     Breezy DeMase was a standout back-row defender, known for her ability to dig even the toughest of attacks and keep rallies alive. Her quick reflexes and sharp anticipation made her a reliable force in the backcourt, getting under hard-driven attacks and turning them into passes. Breezy's ball control allowed her to pass the ball precisely, setting up her team's setter for smooth, well-timed sets that kept the offense flowing. Her hustle and strong defensive presence protected the court and provided a stable foundation for her team's transition game.     Elizabeth "Liz" Tarango was a dominant middle hitter and blocker, excelling offensively and defensively at the net. With her timing, she was a force to be reckoned with when blocking, using her high hands to shut down opposing hitters and alter their attacks. Her presence at the net forced hitters to adjust their swings or risk being stuffed. On offense, Liz was equally effective, scoring from the middle with well-placed hits that capitalized on her reach and precision. Whether finishing quick sets or delivering sharp attacks, Liz's ability to score and block consistently made her a key player in controlling the net.     Mishelle Dominguez is a six-rotation player. As a strong hitter in the front row, she can score with powerful, well-placed attacks, challenging blockers, and finding open spots in the defense. Her versatility extends to the back row, where she shines as a reliable defensive player, digging tough hits and maintaining control in serve-receive. Mishelle's ability to contribute both offensively and defensively makes her an invaluable asset to her team, providing stability and scoring opportunities in every phase of the game.     Leila Pele, a young and promising setter, has impressive ball control and court awareness. She gets the ball to her pins, setting them up for success with smooth sets. Leila's push-out sets are particularly noteworthy, allowing her outside hitters to attack with full momentum. Her soft yet firm hands enable her to deliver accurate sets, whether she's working with the middles or feeding the sides. With her ability to run a fluid offense and keep the pace of the game under control, Leila is quickly becoming a standout setter to watch.     Brooklyn Kelly, a libero, is a defensive player with quick reflexes on the court. Never shying away from a challenge, Brooklyn is always ready to dig or dive for the ball, keeping even the toughest plays alive. Her agility and speed allow her to cover the court with ease, reacting swiftly to fast-paced attacks and delivering passes. Whether it's a sharp spike or a tricky tip, Brooklyn's quick feet and unwavering determination make her a cornerstone of her team's defense, often turning near-impossible saves into opportunities for her teammates to score.     Amyah Jones, a talented 6'0" middle hitter, stands out as a volleyball and basketball dual athlete. Despite her young age, Amyah's height and athleticism make her a dominant force at the net, especially when it comes to blocking. With her high hands and sharp timing, she's a huge presence against opposing hitters. In addition to excelling in the middle, Amyah's versatility allows her to play both outside and right-side, adapting seamlessly to different positions. Her agility and competitive spirit, honed through basketball, enhance her on-court presence, making her a key contributor to her team's success on both offense and defense.     Brea Whittemore is a middle hitter, whose timing helps her make crucial stops at the net. Her technique is sharp, as she jumps straight up with precision, positioning herself to block opposing hitters. Brea's ability to read the game and react quickly allows her to be a strong presence in defense, shutting down attacks with well-timed blocks. Offensively, she excels at getting on top of the ball and uses her power to drive it down for kills, making her a threat in the middle. Her controlled jumps and precise execution make her a key player in both offense and defense.
