Redland Rendezvous Highlights: 15 Club/15 Open

With 13 divisions and over 300 teams, the tournament delivered an unforgettable weekend of high-level competition. Playing outside hitter, she impressed me with intelligent play, well-placed roll shots that landed in the donut and a variety of crafty shots to keep defenders off balance. Ave is versatile, making adjustments to off-the-net sets and finding ways to score. With a powerful serve and quick movement, Ava brings her scrappy demeanor to every position on the court, ready to attack or transition. Defensively, she was sneaky, unpredictable, keeping blockers guessing, hitting them hard and exactly where she wanted to hit them. Her serve was similarly fearsome, routinely applying pressure on opponents with difficult, precise deliveries. Jade was steady in serve receive, which established her team's passing game, and her defensive effort in the front row drew attention. She did not hesitate to sprawl for digs, and then quickly turning to attack. Quick on her feet, she was skilled at blocking and transitioning, making her an asset for her team, both defensively and offensively. Amaya feasted on overpasses with aggressive and well-placed attacks, making the easy points easy. She was a tall, long block, a never-ending wall for opponents, pushing up over the net with power and accuracy. Amaya had powerful and confident swings as she hit off and through blocks offensively. Her technicality and discipline put her where she needed to be to make difficult plays seem easy. Olivia displayed a high level of intellect with a defensive strategy, reading hitters early and getting in position to deliver critical digs. Her touch and fast reactions allowed her to prolong rallies that other players would have had no chance in, she'd often convert dangerous almost kills into digs that turned into quality balls for her setter. Olivia's leadership in the back row was unquestionable, as she talked and anchored her team's defense.
