About Maribeth

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I think my best trait as a setter is mixing up the ball and running/calling a variety of plays. My serve is an extremely strong part of my game. I also love to have an offensive play here and there where I swing with my left or tip back to zone 4.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

My mentality in volleyball is ALWAYS next point, next play. It keeps me from resonating in the bad and focusing too much on the good. I always have to be ready for whatever comes my way and this mentality is the best way to do it for me!

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am involved in Key Club which I have completed nearly 50 volunteer hours for. Hudson Community First and Drug Free Clubs of America.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

As a setter leadership is a huge part of the game. I have developed my leadership from both on and off the court, and since day one because I am an oldest child! Teamwork always, always, always. Whether I’m at volleyball practice, work, or school teamwork is a crucial part of so many things in my everyday life so definitely a huge part of my game!

Slater will the be primary distributor for AVC 17 Blue after sharing the role for Hudson in 2025 on her way to 401 total assists for the season. At 5’8, she can sling it well through both pins including good force and extension against the flow while also showing good touch and variation for her middles.

If there’s a kid that had the most fun while setting one of the more consistent offenses during the showcase, it was Miss Slater. Although undersized, her footwork and hand placement easily set her apart from the great majority of setters in attendance in Columbus. With high, strong hands and great location, Maribeth has a future with a smaller school looking for either a 5-1 setter or a 6-2 setter to add to the setting cadre.

Slater had a terrific sophomore season in 2024 as she led Hudson with 763 assists for a 8.3 a/s average. She takes good command of the court from the setting role with the ability to distribute the full range of offense with good footwork and touch that helps her location. She contributed in other ways as well with 43 service aces and a 7.3 digs per contest average.
