Cora Lee treats her hitters’ success as her own. She said a teammate’s kill feels like her kill too, since she is the one who set it up, and that mindset is exactly what makes a setter easy to play with. She is working on reading the opposing defense and making good decisions, while also sharpening her defense since she plays the position at a shorter height than some of her peers. She recovers quickly after mistakes and brings energy that her coaches and teammates say is contagious.

Some of the most telling moments in a setter evaluation have nothing to do with a perfect pass. Watch what happens when the first contact is bad and you learn a great deal more about who a player actually is. Throughout the Prep Dig Up Next SoCal Showcase the difficult passes were the ones that revealed Cora Lee most clearly to me. She got to them without panic, squared her body, and delivered a set that gave her hitter a real option rather than something to survive. Her tempo varied throughout the scrimmage segments and court coaches consistently noted how rarely the block was loaded in the right spot when she released the ball. Patient, smart, and reliable from start to finish. That is exactly who I saw when I evaluated her on Saturday.
