A setter's fingerprints are on every point her team scores. The SoCal UpNext Showcase brought together a group of setters who think about the game the way a point guard thinks about an offense, always a step ahead, always reading what the defense is about to give up. These are the setters who revealed a shared identity built around tempo, decision-making, and controlling the flow of a match.

Natalia Agustin runs an offense with an eye for making the hitter's job easier, not harder. She likes making quick decisions, reading the court, and putting hitters in position to succeed rather than forcing them to adjust to a bad set. Off the court, she trains in Krav Maga and is working toward a Junior Black Belt, a pursuit that demands the same discipline and focus she brings to her decision-making on the court. She wants to become a setter who can slide into multiple positions whenever her team needs it, which speaks to a player thinking about her long-term value, not just her current role.

Alessandra Cischke treats tempo as a weapon. She is working on a faster-tempo offense and using jump sets specifically to keep blockers guessing, a detail that shows she already understands deception is part of a setter's job, not just placement. She describes herself as naturally quiet, but the position has pushed her to become more vocal and take on a leadership role, proof that setting can shape a personality as much as a personality shapes how someone sets.

Estelle Plache leads with creativity and speed in her decision-making, and she is currently working on becoming a more consistent jump setter while sharpening her touch. She describes herself as encouraging, vocal, and passionate about winning, a combination that suggests a setter who brings intensity without losing her ability to lift her teammates up. Her curiosity carries off the court too, with a growing interest in human biology and a goal of becoming a dermatologist someday.

Sophia Koletes reads the game before it happens. She talks about recognizing weaknesses and predicting what might happen next, which is the kind of court vision that separates a setter who reacts from one who dictates. She has set an ambitious personal nickname for herself, the receiving queen, as she works to become a more reliable passer alongside her setting. She calls herself calm, collected, loud, and encouraging all at once, a mix that shows up in how she talks about helping teammates reset after a mistake rather than letting one bad play spiral.

Stella Schneider refers to her sets by their names. Her favorite sets are “threes” to her middles, “goes” to her outsides, and “reds” to her right sides. She is currently focused on increasing her volleyball IQ and learning to read and beat the block, the next layer for a setter who already understands the mechanics of running a team. Her teammates voted her Most Inspirational last season, and she credits a learning disability with teaching her to find her own way to succeed, a lesson she has carried directly onto the court.

Isabella Iberri, known as Izzy, sets with a confidence that comes from repetition. She feels most confident setting the outside and is currently focused on consistency setting to the right side, a sign of a setter deliberately rounding out her range rather than staying comfortable in one lane. She describes herself as aggressive and a smart defensive setter, a pairing that suggests she treats her back row responsibilities with the same seriousness as her sets.

Kylee Moniz brings numbers to back up her instincts. She reported that her serving averaged 94 percent with 69 aces last season, and she added 278 assists and 295 digs, the kind of complete stat line that shows a setter who impacts every phase of the game. She enjoys dumping the most because of the way it catches an opposing team off guard, and she spent the summer sharpening her topspin serve to keep adding new ways to score. She describes herself as confident under pressure and adaptable, someone who studies where the other team is positioned so she can strategize in real time.

Cora Lee treats her hitters' success as her own. She said a teammate's kill feels like her kill too, since she is the one who set it up, and that mindset is exactly what makes a setter easy to play with. She is working on reading the opposing defense and making good decisions, while also sharpening her defense since she plays the position at a shorter height than some of her peers. She recovers quickly after mistakes and brings energy that her coaches and teammates say is contagious.

Varnika Kuchibhotla already thinks about setting as a three-part skill set: setting, serving, and blocking. She is working on becoming a more well-rounded player by strengthening her hitting and blocking so she is not limited to only the skills that come naturally to her. She describes herself as calm and collected under pressure, someone who stays composed in high-stakes moments so her team can rely on her. Outside the gym, she channels the same focus into nail art, bedazzling, and drawing, creative outlets she uses to recharge from the intensity of the sport.

Jessi Duran spent her summer living by a simple standard, no days off, and it paid off with a six-inch increase in her vertical. She loves creating opportunities for her teammates and helping control the flow of the game, and that offseason commitment to her jump setting reflects a player who treats her position as something to be trained, not just played. Her coaches and teammates describe her as dedicated, coachable, and dependable, someone who does her job and steps up exactly when her team needs her. When she is not setting, she is baking cookies, cupcakes, and cakes completely from scratch.

A setter's value shows up in the details, tempo, reads, and the trust her teammates place in her hands. The setters featured here are proof that studying the position, not just playing it, is what builds a real identity on the court. PrepDig gives you three ways to build on that identity: showcases like UpNext put you in front of real evaluators outside of regular season play, our social media turns performances like these into content coaches and clubs actually see, and our articles start building your name around the habits that matter most at the position.

Setters carry a different kind of pressure than any other position on the court, and the athletes featured here show what it looks like when tempo, decision-making, and court vision are being developed with real intention. Showcases like UpNext give your setters a chance to be evaluated specifically for those habits, outside of pool play pressure. PrepDig works as an extension of your program at every position, whether that means getting your setters seen or building recognition for the players who run your offense. Keep your club updated with the California Club Program Database and stay connected to every opportunity we create for exposure.
