Buhman showed she was a team player as a Sumner-Fredericksburg freshman in 2025, moving off her best position to contribute to the cause in other areas. The ninth-grader ripped off a team-best 375 kills (.310). She added 97 assists, 95 digs and 24.0 blocks. I hadn’t scouted her game since last club season when seeing her at the USAV 15U Iowa Regional in late March. It’s safe to say she’ll step in as an impactful setter for the Cougars this coming season. Tall with long arms for the position, Buhman is an excellent athlete that moves fluidly around the court. She sees the floor well and delivers precise sets. The aforementioned athleticism and leaping ability help her throw up a strong block and end points. Buhman holds up well defensively in the back row. With plenty of development room ahead, Buhman has a good chance to reach her considerable ceiling.

The Cedar Valley is always loaded with talent, but the Class of 2029 is pretty special.  Hannah Buhman Hannah Buhman 5'11" | S/RS Sumner-Fredericksburg | 2029 IA leads all freshmen in the state of Iowa with 284 total kills on the season.  Sumner-Fred is always in the conversation when it comes to top teams in the Cedar Valley and the state.  They are battle tested and is the only team to take down defending state champion and top ranked Denver.  There has been plenty of Buhman to Buhman connections for the Cougars with Alexa Buhman Alexa Buhman 5'8" | S Sumner-Fredericksburg | 2026 State IA having over 700 assists this season.  This squad has quite the combo of youth and experience which should make for an exciting post season. 

Buhman has started her freshman campaign with a bang. Midway through the season, the ninth-grader ranked fourth in her class with 153 kills (.263) and added 96 assists working as the second setter behind her talented older sister. She also recorded 56 digs and 17.0 blocks, providing evidence that she’s a well-rounded volleyball player. I’ve scouted Buhman for a few years on the club circuit. Setter is where she brings the most value because it allows her team to utilize all the skills in her toolbox. But like she’s shown as a freshman, her versatility might be her best asset.
