The energy was great, athletes were smiling, laughing, encouraging each other and plenty of them were not from the same team. A lot of them had probably played against each other at one point or another, but in this case it’s brand new. Pick up volleyball can have its challenges with athletes being accustomed to various styles of sets, including the trust between the setters and attackers is so key. However, Friday was on point with lots of electric connections which allowed more players to really shine.
Annie Stotlar – Iowa Select 17 Mizuno – Bettendorf
Class of 2021 – Pin Hitter
Stotlar continues to impress on both pins. She can attack from the left side or head on over to the right side and do the same. She is a swiss army knife type attacker where she can find multiple ways to put a ball down from multiple positions.
Macey Tisue – CIA 17 Black – Dunkerton (Title Photo)
Class of 2021 – MB/Pin
Tisue first came up on the radar in Des Moines with our Iowa Top 250 and she has improved even in a short two months where she is hitting the ball square, is really dynamic out of the middle, but even showed flashes of being able to blast from the pin. She even had Mallory Tissue, a Class of 2023 prospect along with her.
Taylor Grinley – CIA 17 Black – Gilbert
WedgburyClass of 2021 – Setter
Emmy Wedgbury – CIA 17 Black – Cedar Falls
Class of 2021 – Libero
Grinley and Wedgbury continuously show their positive body language and love for the game. Grinley has such great hands, it makes it so easy for attackers to hit off her and Wedgbury is always giving positive feedback and quarterbacks the court as a libero. Always solid, consistently, and will be huge additions at the next level for talent and culture.
Carly Puffer – Iowa Rockets 16-1 – Tipton
Class of 2022 – MB/RS
Puffer has some grit to her. She stood out as a really solid attacker out of the middle and right side. She is strong, athletic, and has a demeanor where she is going to find a way to get it done. Definitely the type of athlete where you want on your side of the net.
SchroederGabbie Schroeder – Iowa Rockets 16R – Iowa City Liberty
Class of 2022 – L/DS
Love watching Schroeder play. She is so solid no matter what she is doing. Under control, composed, and just makes everything look so easy. She is part of a really talented Iowa Rockets 16R squad where she was the libero throughout the 2019 club season. With continued training she will definitely be a top prospect from the Class of 2022 in the state.
Trinity Zika – Adrenaline – Marion
Class of 2021 – L/DS
Zika is another athlete I have really enjoyed watching her improvement over the past year. She has taken control of the libero role and not only provides a solid first contact off a hard driven ball, but is so solid in serve receive and puts up a really hittable ball on a second contact.
Caidince Cleveland – Iowa Select 17 Mizuno – Bettendorf
Class of 2021 – L/DS
Just a really gritty athlete. Cleveland isn’t afraid to hit the floor to hit a ball, but also can handle a heavy dose of being served at, the type of athlete who wants the ball hit at them. She covers quite a range out of left back and is always one who is ready to make a play.
Grace Graham – Iowa Select – North Scott
Class of 2022 – MB
North Scott will be coming back to the 2020 season after making a state tournament appearance in 2019. Graham is a really jumpy, athletic middle blocker who will look for a big role this upcoming season with her ability sky and do a variety of things out of the middle including making her presence known offensively and defensively.
Costello going to set, Puffer ready to blockClaire Smith – Iowa Select – Assumption
Class of 2021 – MB
Annabelle Costello – Iowa Select – Assumption
Class of 2021 – S
Assumption will be another team looking to make some noise in 2020 after being upset in the quarterfinals of the 2019 state tournament. Costello will be back as a really steady and consistent setter while Smith will be a middle who is really fast twitch and can adjust to whatever comes her way at the net whether its blocking at the net or finding a way to put the ball on the floor.
