About Mckenna

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

“As an outside hitter, my gameplay style is aggressive, energetic, and reliable. I take pride in being a consistent scorer while also contributing on defense and serve receive. I work hard to stay versatile — whether it’s putting the ball away, keeping rallies alive with smart shots, or making tough plays in the back row. I focus on bringing energy, communication, and leadership to the court.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I would describe my mentality as hardworking, positive, and resilient. I’m competitive and always push myself to improve, but I stay humble and coachable. I believe in leading by example supporting my teammates, staying composed under pressure, and keeping a strong mindset no matter the situation.”

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I train year-round to keep improving my game. Outside of my high school season, I compete with Dubuque Insanity Volleyball and also work one-on-one with my private coach and at Bar Raising Fitness to build strength and refine skills. When the club season ends, I transition straight into sand volleyball, which helps me stay competitive, improve my footwork, and develop all-around versatility

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Volleyball has helped me develop leadership and teamwork skills both on and off the court. I’ve learned how important communication and accountability are to team success, and I try to lead by example with my work ethic and positive attitude. I’ve also grown more confident in supporting and encouraging others, whether it’s bringing energy to the court or helping teammates stay focused.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced has been adjusting to the speed of the game as the competition level increases. I’m also continuing to learn the techniques that help me be more effective as a hitter, like finding ways to hit around or through blockers. I view these challenges as opportunities to grow, and I’ve been focusing on training, film study, and extra reps to keep improving

What type of college are you looking for?

I’m looking for a college where I can succeed both academically and athletically. I want a program with strong coaching that will challenge me to grow as a player, while also providing a supportive team culture. It’s important to me to find a school that feels like family, where I can contribute on the court and be pushed in the classroom to prepare for my future off it.
