Continue ReadingThe 2023 class brings a lot of middle talent to the forefront. They are being looked at for their playing ability as they learn to play within their growing bodies. Some will see varsity action come high school, most will see at least a JV squad nod. Getting stronger every day, here some 2023 middle hitters that will surprise you!
Allyson Panzoff, 2023, 6’0, MH, Huntley, Sky High 15 Black
On the varsity roster at Huntley, Allyson played in 79 sets, had 65 kills, and 132 total blocks, 14 of them solo. Solid blocker upfront. Has amazing ball placement skills.
Campbell Paris, 2023, 6’3, MH, Barrington, Sky High 15 Black
As a freshman, played in 88 varsity sets for Barrington High School, Campbell had 146 kills in 2019-20. Another solid middle making this offense well-rounded. Huge block.
Anna Eschenbach, 2023, 6’2, MH, Benet Academy, Lions 15-1
Eschenbach played for the JV team at Benet in 2019-20, but at 6’2, look for her to break onto the varsity team to start seeing the ball at a faster pace. She is also seeing quality time on the First Alliance 15-1 team.
Caroline Carens, 2023, 5’11, MH, Benet Academy, Lions 15-1
Another strong Middle from the Lions 15-1 team, Carens also played for the JV team at Benet in 2019-20. A few inches shorter than Eschenbach, Caren still comes in as more of an offensive threat than Eschenbach. Caren needs to learn how to block those that are taller than her. It’s all about timing.
Tasa Prpa- 2023, MH, Downers Grove South, New Wave
Prpa has the size for either the middle or right side, depending on the day. Coach Diedre Dunbar commented, “Tasa (Prpa) has spent countless hours in lessons and speed/ strength training this offseason to increase her ability to help us out in the middle and it is paying off!”
Ally Deardoriff – 2023, 5’11, MH, Lake Park, New Wave
Also a star in soccer, Deardoriff did not play volleyball during her freshman year at Lake Park high school. She can be a dominant middle who also has the ability to swing strong outside.
Kailey Porter, 2023, 5’11, 2023, DeKalb, VC United 15-1
DeKalb was a strong team in their region last year and Porter looks to be another reason for the team to contend in 2020. Her lateral movement and hand-eye coordination have improved since the fall and look for her to only get better with more playing time.
