About Sophia

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

Aggressive and intelligent.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

Very tough skinned and determined. My personality is laid back and fun loving, unless I’m on the court and in full, aggressive competition mode.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

Fellowship of Christian Athletes Campus Life

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have been a Captain on 7th and 8th grade teams, and Captain for JV. My coaches have always leaned on me to lead the team through challenges and continue pushing them and turn the page after bad plays. Encouraging and having fun is also important to me. Having a strong culture and bond is important on the court as well as off the court.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I have overcome many significant personal challenges outside of the court and some stumbling blocks on the court. All have all made me more resilient, appreciative of all of the good, and have been amazing lessons at a young age to take with me through adulthood.

What type of college are you looking for?

DI, DII, or NAIA/faith-based. Somewhere with a strong culture and solid coaching where I can contribute immediately. Also somewhere that I can focus on my preferred major of journalism/sports broadcasting.

One of the taller defenders in this (or any) class in Indiana, Sophia’s ability to understand her own athletic acuity and mesh it with the needs of the teammates around her make her one of the DS’s I’m featuring here. Need someone to receive serve in half the court? Ask Sophia. Hard-driven ball coming your way? Miss Rios ensures her fellow defenders know what their role is. She’s a second coach on the floor, which is nice to have and not worry about. Leadership in this position is hard to come by, and Sophia easily fits the mold.
