Championship Saturday.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>With the semifinals of the MHSAA tournament leaving nothing more to be desired, the the championship matches were a great cherry on top to what was an incredible finals weekend in Battle Creek. Unlike what we had become accustomed to throughout the week, the final day of the season saw no five set thrillers, but many great matches and dominating performances.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In Division 4, Fowler did the unthinkable and blinked the hometown team, Mendon in straight sets. Mendon had been the undeniable No. 1 team in the division for just about the majority of the year, but when it all mattered, Fowler was able to prevail. This marked Fowler's first state championship in program history.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Division 3, Kingsley was just having the good times roll. After bulldozing through some of the best teams that this Division had to offer just to get to Kellogg Arena, what was one more? From No. 1, to No. 10, to No. 7, to No. 5 and finally, they took down the 8th ranked Kalamazoo Christian in pretty dominating fashion. This also marked Kingsley's first ever title in program history.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In Division 2, the Yellow Jackets of Detroit Country Day were not to be stopped en route to a repeat victory. They not only defeated the first timers in Flat Rock, but they steamrolled. Country Day's balance from all areas of the court proved just too much for the Downriver program. They would win their second state title in program history in as many years!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>And finally, Division 1, the Mercy Marlins would prevail and end the historic run by Bloomfield Hills. It was an incredible match of game planning and execution on the part of the Marlins. With Bloomfield Hills having their magnum opus on a full steam, it was outstanding to see how well Mercy's block was able to neutralize their entire offense.
