We have two scouts running around our DMV events, which means usually we are covering different groups for different parts of the day, and it means sometimes we don't see much of one group and see a lot more of another group. We also get our own picks for Top Performers and such, sometimes we just miss someone that is very much worthy, sometimes one of us may claim them before the other one can. I always have thoughts the day after these events, who did I miss? So if you didn't get a write up or a nod from me, don't take it as a slight, it may be because I recently wrote about you at another event and I'm trying to spread the love around, or it may be that I was watching other courts and just happened to miss you showing out. That being said, here are the setters that really grabbed my attention on this stop:

[player_tooltip player_id='728459' first='Ali' last='Joyce'] - 2027 - [program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last='']

Ali was pretty great right off the top, during warm ups, she showed off a great backwards one handed dump, which caught my eye right away. Her hands were good, setting all three spots well, and mixed the ball around plenty. She looked good on her jump sets, and she had good footwork, which helped her hit her spots pretty consistently all day.

[player_tooltip player_id='731013' first='Ella' last='Strain'] - 2027 - Maryland Juniors

Ella had a fantastic set of hands, and like Ali, did a great job of showing sets to all three spots regularly, especially the RS and Middle, showing various tempos and plays. She also played aggressive defense keeping the ball off the floor, her serve receive was great, she showed the part of a former libero. Serving she has a great float serve that really moves late, and she flashed high level IQ, finding spots and times to dump and steal points as well as finding the weaker coverage spots to set.

[player_tooltip player_id='552700' first='Maya' last='Downs'] - 2027 - [program_tooltip program_id='511606' first='Vienna' last='Elite']

Maya showed one of the best outside balls from the setter spot and showed some good strength on serves as well. She had some nice touch on some balls I saw her set to the middle, but I didn't see her as much as some of the other girls.

[player_tooltip player_id='536724' first='Ariel' last='Callwood'] - 2028 - [program_tooltip program_id='484770' first='VA' last='Juniors'] and [player_tooltip player_id='562335' first='Zeynep' last='Anaz'] - 2028 - [program_tooltip program_id='484770' first='VA' last='Juniors']

Both of the [program_tooltip program_id='484770' first='VA' last='Juniors'] in the setting duo showed up on my list. I only got to see flashes in drills, and a small amount of game play for both of them, but I did see some talent. They are both going on my list to watch again during the season so I can see some more, but I saw a few good sets, some solid defense, there's some skill here for sure, more to come on them during the season.

Alex Serina - 2029 - AVA

Alex wins the long distance award, traveling all the way from PA to come to another one of our events. She's used to mingling with older players, playing up on her club team. She showed great defense and she's just on that edge of being able to set both front and back row, flexibility is big for her, being able to run a 5-1 as well as a 6-2. She set well, picking good spots and set a great outside ball a few times I saw of her. She was one of our top performers at the previous showcase, so she couldn't get it again in this one back to back, but she was in the mix skill wise for it.

[player_tooltip player_id='747031' first='Braylin' last='Coacher'] - 2029 - [program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last='']

Braylin looked very good from when I saw her last in the summer. She may have sprouted another inch or so as well, which as a freshman is entirely possible. She's got the skills, can set all three spots, makes good decisions, can play at the net as well as off it and is going to do some damage for [program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''] this year.
