Weather didn't stop the largest two-day tournament in the country from happening, and there was plenty to see. The second-highest division in the 16s age group at Central Zones this past Saturday had its fair share of upsets, including the eventual winner knocking off Team Indiana's 16.2 and Circle's 16-3 in the semis and final, respectively. Here are five players from Circle's 16 Volt that found their way to the top of the podium with a little luck and a LOT of grit and determination.

Seeing more right side play than any other position in the past year or so, Elle is a strong pin attacker with a solid shot selection that minimizes errors regularly. I'd like to see a bit more rise in her jump, allowing her to use all of her length more regularly. For now, though, she's pretty successful picking and choosing her spots to go for it and take a little off to make things tough for the opponent.

Although listed as both a right side and as a middle, Miss Lee looks very comfortable in the M2 position for this roster. Able to pick and choose her angles regardless of the tempo and location of the set, Jocelynn has a high attack point, puts up a solid block, and can hit any angle available because of her court vision. Yes, she could be considered “undersized” because she doesn't have a “6” in front of her height. That certainly hasn't stopped Miss Lee from winning this past weekend, and being a pretty big part of the offense while doing so.

Already seeing a ton of high-end playing time at Franklin Community, Nila's ability to overcome her height with long strides and a relentless work ethic got her this far. I don't normally give credence to defensive specialists in these articles because there are SO many of them in Indiana. That being said, you could do a lot worse than Nila in this class, and her experience on this Circle squad will make her better in a hurry.

Hallie's vision of the block in front of her and the volleyball smarts to know what to do in each and every situation will carry her far in her recruiting journey. When in-system, Miss Rieck hits a heavy ball to all angles as a solid M2. Her shot selection makes defending her a nightmare, however, keeping defenses guessing when she receives the ball. I'd like to see more jumping ability and athleticism to get her out of certain situations that are out-of-system, but for now her success rides that on-court vision that so few in this class have.

Undersized and underappreciated, Mollie is a small-school six-rotation kid that can do a little of everything for each and every roster she's on. As a passer, she can receive serve, defend and make every first contact of hers settable. On the attack, Mollie can do everything from punishing an undisciplined block to finding a seam to off-speed shots that are indefensible. Those shots, and the sheer number and variety of them she uses during play, lead me to believe that she might be a better-than-average outdoor player, and a feisty one at that.
