Standout Setters from 16 Girls at Great Lakes Grit

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The talent at Great Lakes Grit this past weekend was high in the 16 Girls Division.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>There were a lot of setters on display with a high ceiling.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Here's a look at some of the setters that stood out the most in the division.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='942400' first='Ella' last='Bloss'], NIVA 16 White</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Bloss was a really agile player who did a nice job of finding ways to get under the ball to make clean sets when it didn't look like it was possible. The ball had nice touch off her hands.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Peyton Bowman, Michigan Elite 16 NS East</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Stepping into this spot to help Michigan Elite having kids on spring break, Bowman did an outstanding job of helping her team win some big matches. She showed a lot of savvy and grew in confidence with each match. She wasn't afraid to take a few chances and many times they paid off.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='940384' first='Josie' last='Garber'], NIVA 15 Purple</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Garber was a setter/RS combo player that has a lot of upside. She can push a fast pace on offense and plays very long at the net with her attacks and blocking ability. She's got a lot of intangibles that serves her team well.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='924928' first='Mena' last='Hover'], NIVA 15 Purple</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>NIVA 15 Purple had a two-setter system and both really looked smooth on the floor. Hover had great chemistry with her hitters and communicated well. She made necessary adjustments throughout a match and wasn't afraid to try and make aggressive plays. She looked very comfortable in pressure situations.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Taelynn McKinney, NIVA 16 Grey</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A 2029 prospect, McKinney moved really well around the floor and communicated well with her hitters. She had some teachable moments this week and learned from them, applying it to the floor for some nice stretches of play.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Reagan Minke, Michigan Elite 14 Mizuno</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A setter/hitter combo option, Minke was an explosive player that used her all-around ability to come through in all phases of the game. She was a power left-handed arm at the net, but dialed up some great sets for her explosive hitters.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Emily Moreno, Michigan Elite 16 NS West</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Moreno was leaving it all on the court for her team, making every play she could and trying to get her hitters the best balls possible. Her hustle paid off plenty of times. Moreno also came through with a number of aces to help shift momentum in a match.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Avery Perry, Oxford Hype Blaze-1</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Perry was a long setter that was a little raw, but shows some potential. She tried to make some difficult plays and was showing the ability to quickly learn from mistakes. She had some really strong connections with her talented middle.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
