Texas 2028 Watch List Back Row Baddies Vol 4

Who are players that all college coaches should be giving a legitimate shot to in the class of 2028? We have the answer in our Official Watch List. Karsyn St. John is a Class of 2028 libero and defensive specialist from Barbers Hill High School and MOCO Mavs volleyball club. Barbers Hill has made the UIL playoffs for nearly two decades running and produced All-State back row talent on multiple occasions, which means the daily standard she is measured against in practice is not ordinary. We have been watching her for a while now and are very pleased with her progress in both serve receive and defense. Her platform mechanics are clean and she does not panic when the serve comes with pace, redirecting the ball with control rather than simply reacting and hoping it goes somewhere useful. What stands out most about her game is the reading ability she brings to the defensive phase, arriving in her spot before contact rather than scrambling after the fact. She is quick and compact in her movements and plays with a competitive focus that shows up in every rally she is asked to defend. Karsyn is a 2028 watch list prospect with the program pedigree and the positional instincts to generate real interest as her career continues to develop. [player_tooltip player_id='576497' first='Ava' last='Tiller'], a Class of 2028 outside hitter and defensive specialist from Concordia Lutheran High School in Tomball, is a multi-dimensional player whose value comes not from what she does in one phase of the game but from how fully she contributes across all of them. At 5'7" she attacks from the pin with a confidence and arm speed that make her a legitimate offensive option, and the ability to also function as a reliable defensive specialist means she stays on the court and stays involved when other one-dimensional players are being substituted around. Her floor game shows a player who does not treat defense as secondary work, passing with discipline and digging with effort rather than waiting to be set again. This young lady is a true six rotation player who excels with total ball control all around the court. College coaches looking for a productive, coachable player who contributes on both sides of the ball should be making time to evaluate Ava before this class closes out. The ability to function as a back row anchor in the libero role and also run an offense as a setter is not something that can be developed overnight, and the fact that she is doing both at a meaningful level as a sophomore in a 5A program that has produced a national Gatorade Player of the Year and sent multiple players to the highest levels of college volleyball tells you the talent is real and the development environment is accelerating it. Her defensive reading and platform mechanics carry the discipline of a player who has been trained specifically for the libero role, while her ball-handling and court vision in the setter position reflect a separate but equally developed skill set. The two-position value she brings creates roster flexibility that coaches at every level struggle to manufacture, and programs that identify that early will benefit considerably when she is fully developed.
