The defense on this team absolutely blew me away. Absolutely nothing dropped on their side of the court. Their effort was lights out on every single point. They came into the day ranked 4th in their pool and are leaving with a spot in the gold bracket tomorrow. Their only loss today was to Sting 15 Black in three sets. Libero [player_tooltip player_id='758865' first='Presley' last='Maciejewski'] was a key player for [program_tooltip program_id='557038' first='Milwaukee' last='Juniors']. She was everywhere at once and got a touch on anything that came over the net. I was so impressed with her coverage of the court and how fast she reacted to plays. Not only that, but she had great ball control even in scramble situations. Defensive specialist [player_tooltip player_id='849065' first='Lennyn' last='Olivier'] was another huge contributor to their defensive success. She covered corner to corner out of the middle back and dug out some very hard-hit balls as well. Setter Molly Opperman not only showed off her defensive skills, but ran the court like a seasoned pro, keeping the middles involved whenever possible and utilizing every hitter. Fellow setter Peyton Opperman was cool under pressure and able to deliver when her team needed it tight in the third set with Sting Black. Middle [player_tooltip player_id='918619' first='Adalyn' last='Feyen'] and lefty right side [player_tooltip player_id='948471' first='Kyla' last='Mallinger'] were tough to stop all day.

This team is the definition of a well-oiled machine. They come out strong and never slow down. They are absolutely relentless in everything they do and at the same time, every athlete is contributing at a high level. I was so impressed with how cohesive this team played and the joy they had even in the most competitive matches. Defensive specialist [player_tooltip player_id='455611' first='Sophia' last='Cowan'] was a huge energizer for the team and was a consistent contributor on defense as well. Middle [player_tooltip player_id='516170' first='Macy' last='Monson'] was aggressive at the net, nothing got past her without a touch or effort. She was quick to react and always seemed to know where she needed to be and how she should react in every possible situation. The setters [player_tooltip player_id='461750' first='Leah' last='Biyadglign'] and [player_tooltip player_id='453085' first='Kaelyn' last='Bjorklund'] ran the show. Leah was smooth, fast, and precise while Kaelyn was powerful and gritty. Kaelyn also hit when she was in the front row and was a key contributor on offense. Libero [player_tooltip player_id='455615' first='Taylor' last='Peterson'] was incredibly smart and showed just how high her volleyball IQ is. She could read opposing hitters, see the block, and communicate efficiently with her team. This team will continue their dominance in gold tomorrow.

Iowa Premier 16-1 | 16 Elite

I saw this Iowa team playing from two courts away and after a kill from high-flying pin Hailey Wiederin had to go and watch. I ended up spending nearly and entire match on their court, which is quite a long time considering how many courts and teams we have to cover at any given time. If I had to describe how this team played it would be... driven. They were focused and locked-in. What made a difference is, the entire team seemed to be bought in. Premier went 3-0 in matches, only dropping one set today. Setter Addison Waldorf kept the ball moving quickly and had pinpoint precision. Libero Reese Heim kept things simple and clean in the back row, taking up as much space as possible and relieving pressure off her hitters. She was lightning fast to react on defense and in coverage. Pin hitter Avery Cordes also made a huge impact on offense and was explosive and fun to watch. She hit over and around a lot of blockers, finding holes in opposing defenses.

This team played fast and seamless volleyball. Whenever the ball was on their side of the court, they seemed to click into 'go' mode and there was almost a flow to how they played. Every one of their matches went to three sets today yet they were able to take second place and will advance to the gold bracket tomorrow. Kesley Green set at a very high level and knew exactly where her hitters needed the ball. Middle Sadie Ellis mixed up her plays, often running a slide. She was dynamic and impactful both in front of and behind the setter. Libero Addyson Wolfer kept her form clean and simple with great angles and efficient movement. She was a huge leader on the court and delivered for her team time and time again. Mina Radaszewski played in all six rotations when I saw them and was a consistent force on offense and defense. She was engaged on every point. Huge shoutout to defensive specialist Ella Groff who played lights out serve receive and helped take her team to the next level throughout the day.

This team came in ranked 4th in their pool and came out of pool play 3-0 in straight sets. While I didn't get a chance to spend much time on their court today, I have seen them play several times this season, and they are sure to put up an awesome battle in the Gold Bracket tomorrow. I will be one of the first on their court in the morning to fill the notes app!
