Every team loves a perfect pass. The setter is on target, the offense is in rhythm, and hitters get clean looks at the net.

However, volleyball isn't always that simple.

The best attackers separate themselves when the pass isn't perfect. They score when the setter is chasing the ball. They find points when the block knows exactly where the set is going. Most importantly, they stay effective when the play breaks down.

Out-of-system scoring is one of the toughest skills in volleyball. Defenses are often set, blockers are waiting, and options are limited. Yet some hitters continue to find ways to put the ball away.

Here are a few athletes who consistently shine when things get messy.

Out-of-system situations often reward players who stay composed.

Landry Roberts fits that description perfectly. She remains under control during long rallies and understands how to manage difficult attacking opportunities. Rather than forcing low-percentage swings, Roberts does a great job reading the defense and making productive choices. Meanwhile, her steady serve receive helps create opportunities throughout the match. That all-around consistency allows her team to stay connected, even when rallies become unpredictable. Her ability to contribute on both sides of the ball makes her a dependable option in pressure moments.

Playing up on 17 Black, Delaney Lauer continues to show why she's such a reliable offensive option. When rallies drift out of system, Lauer doesn't panic. Instead, she evaluates what is available and makes smart choices. She sees the block well and understands how to create scoring opportunities even without a perfect set. Additionally, her ability to attack from both the front and back row gives her team another option when structure breaks down. She remains available in transition and consistently finds ways to stay involved. Out-of-system volleyball often rewards players who can problem-solve, and Lauer does exactly that.

Some hitters create offense through vision.

Others create offense through sheer force. Raya Thompson brings the kind of power that can erase a difficult situation. Her explosive arm swing generates impressive pace, even when the set isn't ideal. As a result, defenders have very little time to react. Furthermore, her ability to attack from either pin makes her a valuable out-of-system target. Coaches can trust her to take swings in difficult situations because she has the physical tools to challenge any block. When the rally gets chaotic, Thompson has the ability to simplify things with one aggressive swing.

Reagan Bayley carries a heavy offensive load, and that becomes especially noticeable when plays move out of system. She stays aggressive while maintaining a quick approach. Because of that, she's often available when her team needs a bailout swing. Even when blockers know the ball is heading her direction, she continues to find ways to score. In addition, Bayley impacts the match beyond her attacking. She stays engaged in the back row and competes through every rotation. That complete skill set allows her to remain effective no matter how the rally unfolds.

Out-of-system attackers give their teams a chance to win rallies that should be difficult. They turn broken plays into points. They keep momentum alive. Most importantly, they provide solutions when options are limited.
