The state leader in hitting percentage this past fall, Abbie is a strong, fluid and springy middle that can attack both in front of and behind the setter at will. Her quick transitional approach, whip of an arm swing and heavy contact on the ball looks every bit the part of a D1 middle. I’d love to see Abbie play on a team with taller pin blockers, as she’d have MANY more block assists in her stat line—-her long strides to close from pin to pin is the quickest I’ve seen in her class.

The owner of the highest hitting percentage of all players, regardless of class, in the entire state of Indiana this past high school season, Abbie is a tough and athletic middle that can be an M1 or an M2 for whomever wants her. With lift for days and an innate ability to terminate with maximum efficiency, Abbie’s toughness shines through in any setting on any roster. With Abbie’s guidance, Southern Wells should earn the first D1 volleyball recruit in some time—-and further Munciana’s ability to crank out amazing athletic talent from smaller schools in east central Indiana.

Speaking of fast and athletic, Abbie’s ability to terminate at will because of her speed in transition puts her in the “players to watch” list. Ready to attack either in front of or behind the setter at all times, Miss Powell led the entire state of Indiana in hitting percentage, proving her terminal abilities aren’t a fluke. Although “only” six feet tall, her long arms make her tough to go against on defense, and she closes blocks well because of her long arms and long strides when she defends from pin to pin. About as complete a package as you’ll get from the middle position in this class, Abbie’s abilities are already next-level.

Abbie is not only one of the most athletic middles in this (or any) class, but led the state of Indiana in hitting percentage for the fall of ‘25. Springy, fast and smart, Miss Powell has turned more than a few heads with her smooth athleticism and point-scoring ability. No, she’s not 6’3”+ like a lot of big-time middles these days. However, she more than makes up for it with vision, a high volleyball acuity and brute strength.

The top hitting percentage player in the state this past fall, Abbie is an explosive and terminal middle that can score points in front of the setter just as easily as she can on a slide. Her athleticism looks smooth and easy, her All-State honors are no fluke, either—-her skill set transfers well at the open level of club play, even though she plays at one of the smaller schools in Indiana. Length, upper-body strength and volleyball IQ have propelled Miss Powell this far, and this coming club season should solidify her recruitment by earning multiple offers this coming summer.

From super-small Southern Wells, Abbie led the state in hitting percentage this past fall, and was the only non-senior in the top five. Efficiency is exactly what you get from Miss Powell—-she’s up quick, finds her spot, and puts the ball away. There’s no extraneous movement, no flashy play; she does her job with quickness and athleticism and transitions faster than any middle we’ve had at our showcases for some time. She’s also skilled at both the M1 and M2 positions, and adjusted well to all types of setters on Saturday both in front of and behind.

As a regular attendee at our showcases, we knew we saw something special when Abbie walked in the door. Little did we know that Abbie would flat out dominate in efficiency and physicality. Among the best in the country, let alone 1A in Indiana, Abbie hit an astonishing .564 from her middle position. This earned her a 1st Team All State honor, and her career is well in focus for a number of collegiate colleges.

One of the more physical players in this class, Abbie hits an extremely heavy ball, and showed off her hard-hitting tendencies against older competition at our Stock Up Showcase a few weeks ago. Fully capable of being the M1 or the M2 on any roster, her full-go, hard-hitting, quick transitioning play style has led to more opportunities to take over matches this past year. With length longer than her six foot frame might assume, she’s also adept on the block. Abbie will be an absolute steal for someone looking for that work ethic middle that can take over a match if you let her. And, being tucked away at Southern Wells, most won’t even see her coming.

Clearly the strongest and one of the more well-polished middles on the day, Abbie was an obvious choice as a top middle for the entirety of the showcase. Regardless of who the setter was, Miss Powell easily terminated in front of or behind the setter, found a connection with multiple setters immediately upon arrival, and was tough to go against on defense. As the day went on, unlike some of her fellow middles, she got stronger and more forceful with her attacks, almost like she was the exclamation point to a sentence. Quick, strong and terminal are the traits every middle should have, and Abbie has each of them in droves.

Powell is no stranger to my articles or lists of top middles in Indiana and for good reason. She just continues to get better and better each time I get to watch her play. Abbie was easily one of my picks for Top Performers at the Stock Up Showcase and maybe the best front row player there; I am really glad she came, as she upped the level of play for everyone. She plays high above the net AND fast, allowing her to beat the block most of the time whether she is in front of or behind the setter. Right now she is very terminal on both the 1 and 31 balls and her slide attack is definitely getting there. She can move from pin-to-pin with ease on the block and NEVER takes a play off – I think she only knows one speed and that is FAST (which I love). Expect her to move up quickly in our rankings and on coaches lists for June 15th, 2026.
