Expert Analysis

Clearly one of the best passers in this class, Brooke’s ability to pass a full two-thirds of the court in every serve receive situation is impressive—-and TOUGH. Often during their matches on Saturday, she had to step in front of many of her teammates to ensure a solid pass and keep her squad in-system. Reliable, tough, quick and exceptional at her craft, Miss Neale has risen her stock well enough that she might be the first pure passer receiving a commitment this summer.

Quick, intelligent and consistent, Brooke is the rare libero I’ll mention for this tournament. Working with some of the best ball control trainers in the Midwest at Munciana, Brooke’s ability to cover ground and perfectly pass a hard-driven ball or tough serve make her the perfect kid to wear the special jersey. Even if she isn’t the libero, she can play any of the three back row position with equal adeptness and skill. Traditionally, I don’t talk about defenders, simply because we have so many of them in Indiana. Brooke is worth the article space, and has a chance of being one of the first liberi to earn a commitment next summer.

A Munciana kid through and through, Brooke has been a passing genius for at least five years now, starting on a 12U team when she was just 10. As the libero for Munciana’s 15 Blue squad this past spring, Brooke is a solid, consistent and technically sound libero who can play all three defensive positions at an elite level. Open-level since she started playing, Brooke is a no-doubt D1 prospect who can give the top ten recruits in this (or any) class pause if they choose to take her lightly.

As the libero for one of the top 15s teams in the midwest, Brooke is an elite passer with quickness that is unmatched. Her feet seemingly always get her to the ball, and quick decisions are made in the blink of an eye. Sometimes, quickness means “jerky”. Brooke is the opposite; smooth as silk and consistently reliable for every first contact. I’m sure that if her coaches at Munciana told her to pass half the court, she’d not only do it, but excel at it. Passing and defense is not easy, but Brooke’s ability to do just that makes her the standard to which others should be held.

Brooke was really the only freshman at Westfield HS who saw real playing time at the varsity level, playing in 83 of 110 sets. Even though she didn’t see action all the time, she still ended the season third in total aces, FIRST in aces per set and 4th in digs per match. Neale is a strong DS with lots of great varsity experience on this Munciana squad and she will round out the roster of four DS/L’s quite nicely – I imagine with her varsity experience she will be playing regularly at DS.
