Got to see a lot of her at the showcase on Friday night, so I went to hunt her down during the qualifier to get a bit more of a look at her in game situations. She’s played all around earlier in her career and in HS, at the next level she’s probably a back row player, but I won’t lock in on that, I’ve seen crazier happen. All I know is in the back row she’s solid, and covers a lot of ground, doing a good job of keeping her team in the game. A team that won the American Blue Division and earned their bid to Nationals. I think the trait I like the most about her is her serving, she’s got an absolutely filthy topspin serve that is tough to get to.

To be fair, in these showcases, not a lot of girls actually get a chance to serve, so there could have been other things out there…maybe…but from what I actually got to see, Abryella blew me away. She’s a DS with good skills, which is what I was watching at the time during scrimmage play. She’s 5’4, which is pretty on brand for a DS/Lib. What is very much NOT typical is that she has a top spin serve, and a nasty, hard, dropping ball at that. Her serve was accurate, hard to read, and even harder to get in front of to play. When you’re seeing a DS drop back to serve and waiting for that float serve, and all of a sudden the ball gets tossed 10 feet in the air and then drops over the net like a string was cut…it can be jarring. It was fun to watch, but that’s because I wasn’t in serve receive.

brought range and anticipation to the back row. She read the game well, especially in transition, sliding into defensive windows and getting her platform set before the swing even came. Her ability to dig cross-court with control kept rallies alive, and she didn’t just keep balls off the floor—she gave her team a chance to run offense. She showed confidence stepping in to take tough serves, holding her line and delivering consistent first contact. There was intent behind every movement, and it showed in how often she was around the ball. ~Theresa @prepdigdakotas

, a Class of 2027 libero from Vela High School in Edinburg and McAllen Fierce Volleyball Club, brings a winning pedigree to the back row that very few players her age can match. She was part of a McAllen Fierce program that captured a USA Volleyball Junior National Championship title, and even in that moment of celebration she talked about proving doubters wrong and showing the world what players from the Rio Grande Valley are capable of, a mindset that tells you everything about the competitive fire she carries into every gym she walks into. At 5’4″ she is compact, quick, and relentless in her pursuit of every ball that enters her area of the court, and the defensive instincts she has developed over years of high-level training show up immediately when you watch her play. She is the kind of back row player who makes the players around her better because she never gives away a point and never stops competing regardless of the score. Her serve receive has been a consistent strength and she understands how to take pace off the ball and redirect it in a way that keeps her offense running cleanly rather than scrambling. Abryella is an experienced prospect from South Texas who deserves far more recruiting attention than she has received and college programs should be making contact now. Please help us congratulate her on earning Top Performer honors at this showcase event.
