Freeman has been on the cusp of a tournament bid for a while, especially with Johansen racking up exceptional numbers in the frontcourt. The junior attacker has compiled 3.5 kills per set while proving her willingness to hit anywhere along the net. Johansen has played almost any frontcourt position imaginable throughout her prep career and is paying that off with an exceptional 2024 season with the Falcons. Freeman is seventh in the latest C2 standings and has a lot to play for in districts.

The Freeman Falcons can fly. Johansen made serious gains last fall, and it’s all showing up with Premier Nebraska in 2024. Like many of the players on this feature, Johansen has a malleable positional role with her club team. Premier 16 Red has harnessed her quickness at the middle blocker spot, leading to plenty of highlight moments in Minneapolis. Johansen also has an extensive background at opposite and has a high jump touch off of two feet. The sky is the limit.

It might be more accurate to list Johansen as an opposite at this point, especially given her recent performances with Premier 15 Black. But Johansen can also get it done as a middle blocker and has shown some of that versatility with Freeman High School. We’ll see how this role evolves when 15 Black fights for a GJNC title.

Speaking of teams heading to Nationals, we’ll have a close eye on Premier 15 Black after its big breakthrough at NLQ. Johansen remained a major contributor for 15 Black in late-season action and did most of her damage on the right side. However, Johansen also brings extraordinary value on the left pin whenever she’s rotated into the left-front area. Keep tabs on that versatility when 15 Black hits the road to Chicago.
