About Alyssa

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I would describe my gameplay style as tenacious yet agile. I am a fighter and will work for every ball that is thrown at me. With that, I am well coordinated, helping me be able to get to difficult balls.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I would describe myself as outgoing, fearless, and resilient. These attributes connect to my mentality of “no dropped balls”. I think being able to push past doubt is very important, especially as a libero. With that, I think that doing your best to get to a ball is very valuable.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

At my high school I am part of sports medicine and HOSA club. I chose to be part of these clubs to expand my knowledge in the medical field, due to my aspirations to become a physical therapist. Outside of school I volunteer at Willow River Equine Rescue.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

A skill I have developed and represent well is my leadership. For the past 3 years I have been put in leadership roles, during club and school season. At first I didn’t fully grasp the meaning of being a leader. But through experience, trial and error, and a lot of help I was able to be the best leader I could for my team.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I have had a long journey with the mental aspect of volleyball. I have had a difficult time with having self-compassion, especially times of stress or anxiety. Being able to support myself and treat myself like a friend has tremendously helped with my moral and being a great teammate. Learning to be kind to myself has helped me learn and grow so much.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for an athletically and academically competitive school where I can pursue my dreams of becoming a physical therapist. I also want to prioritize the environment and moral of the school, making sure it is a positive place where I can thrive.
