About Ashlyn

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I like to influence the game as a blocker, ultimately intimidating and forcing the opponent to roll the ball giving our passers an advantage when we run our offense. I see myself as athletic and versatile and like being matched up against elite hitters and tasked with shutting them down.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I'm emotionally balanced, rarely rattled, focused on my responsibilities and love to learn. My coaches have said that I am extremely athletic, coachable and a fast learner. I am compassionate and caring, thinking of other before myself.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I have volunteered at the Canal Fulton Safety Town for the past 10 years and I attend youth group at my church. I participated in speech debate, science fair, and mock trial. I am a scholar athlete. I play basketball, have ran track, gymnastics, ballet, and cheer. I also have 5 siblings.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I feel I have grown to be self-confident over the past year, which has helped me to become a better leader by example. Serving at local sports camps has helped me understand the importance of being a good example to others through community service and helping children overcome their fears, develop confidence, and grow their strengths.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I feel trying out for and joining AVC's 15 Red team last year as a first year JO player was a significant challenge for me as it forced me out of my comfort zone. The time commitment, travel commitment, and financial commitment have all been challenging as well as the competition at practice, coaching, games; this experience added a level of pressure that I would like to think I'm thriving in.

What type of college are you looking for?

I want to play for the most successful and accomplished volleyball team possible while pursuing my academic goals.

The length that Lazarus brings to the court is a big part of her game as she was highly productive this recent high school season for Northwest at over 300 kills and a 3.4 k/s average. Expect to see big growth in her game over the club season as her role in the middle should include a lot of opportunities surrounded by some of the top Ohio 2028s on her side of the net as part of AVC’s top 16U squad, a club that develops athletes very well.
